Guerlain Rouge G was first launched in 2009 and quickly became a sell-out. It had a flip-up mirror in the case (a first of its kind) and a buttery, pigment-rich formula. So it was no surprise when Guerlain relaunched this lip colour in 2018, leaning into the customisation element. Customers could buy lipstick refills and cases separately, mixing and matching them depending on their mood or outfit. Guerlain was one of the first brands to do this, and it was a big success. What Are The 2024 Updates & Changes?
• Previous versions have all been discontinued: sad news, but the lipstick and case updates below make it all worthwhile! Unfortunately, the old versions do not fit in the new ones.
• They’re now gold: the original silver lipstick bullet and cases have been switched to gold – a chic and luxurious update.
• There are more shades: 40 in total, including nudes, corals, berries, pinks and reds in two finishes, velvet and satin.
• They’re more sustainable: the cases are 19% lighter than before, an update that has resulted in 30% fewer CO2 emissions.
• They’re skincare-infused: the new lipstick refill has an 89% skincare formula of natural waxes.
• There are new cases: nine new cases in a selection of styles, and yes, the pop-up mirror hasn’t gone anywhere.

The Lipstick Formula
The Rouge G Lipstick has a nourishing formula containing 89% skincare ingredients, including natural wax lily oleo extract chosen for its soothing and regenerating properties and exceptional comfort. I knew the satin finish would be comfortable to wear, as it tends to feel more hydrating, but the velvet finish surprised me. Despite being matte, it didn’t make my lips feel tight or dry!
The Lipstick Finishes
The Rouge G Lipstick Refill comes in two finishes: satin, which leaves the lips with a subtle shine, and Velvet, which leaves the lips with a soft, matte finish. Both have great longevity; I found that the velvet lasted all day (I paired it with a lip liner), while the satin finish I needed to top-up at lunchtime.
