Yves Saint Laurent Pure Shots Airthin UV Defender SPF50+ Review

Protect your complexion against UV rays and the signs of ageing with the Yves Saint Laurent Pure Shots Airthin UV Defender, an innovative SPF 50+ broad-spectrum facial sunscreen for all skin types, including sensitive.

The Most Important Thing About This Product Is…

Yves Saint Laurent know that harmful UVA rays play a significant role in accelerating the skin ageing process, seen in resulting wrinkles and pigmentation. To combat this, they have introduced the Airthin UV Defender, a hydrating SPF 50+ sunscreen to defend against the harmful effects of UVA rays, UVB rays and urban aggressors to promote a rejuvenated, healthier complexion. As well as being YSL’s fullest urban protection against UVA/UVB rays, pollution and dust, Airthin also leaves skin more visibly youthful and with an improved tone in just two weeks.

Formula update: In November 2023, YSL made minor updates to this sunscreen to make it even better! Now, the formula contains 10x more niacinamide and is 8x thinner.

You Will Love This If…

If you’re looking to nip the signs of premature ageing in the bud and want to effectively protect your skin against solar rays and pollution, YSL’s Pure Shots UV Defender may be your new best friend.

It’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive. If you’re put off using a daily SPF due to heavy, thick and greasy formulas, you’ll love Airthin’s super lightweight texture.

The Formula:

Airthin offers SPF 50+ broad-spectrum protection, so your skin is guarded against the rays associated with premature ageing, skin damage and sunburn. The formula is enriched with Moroccan lemon peel extract and niacinamide, which are both renowned for their abilities to balance and even out tone, while the formula ensures skin can breathe.

The Texture

The super-lightweight cream blends in to provide a weightless feel, without leaving skin feeling greasy or sticky; it’s ideal to use alone or under makeup. But what makes it so lightweight? YSL’s ‘Airthin’ technology; it’s up to 8x thinner than a classic UV base.

How Should You Apply It?

Shake the product well before applying in the morning. Pour seven drops of the formula into the palm of your hand. Dab it the forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and neck, before spreading the texture using one hand from one temple to the other one. With two hands, spread the formula on your cheeks and nose, working from the centre of the face outwards, and then back again. Finish by applying to the chin and neck.

To encourage the sunscreen to penetrate into skin, make little pressuring motions with your fingers, starting from the centre of your face and working out to the exterior. Apply this process to the cheeks, forehead and neck.

This generous, even layer should be applied to your complexion at the end of your skincare routine and before your makeup.

What’s Special About The Design?

Airthin is held in a slim white tube; the fine nozzle allows you to release just the right amount while it’s thin enough that it can be popped into a travel bag or makeup bag without taking up too much space.
