Share
Dry shampoos are a hair care marvel. They can take your greasy tresses from 0 to 100 in a few spritzes; the transformation is quite remarkable. For that reason, they’re a must-have for every beauty stash. The good and bad news is, there’s a lot of them. The choice is both a cause for celebration and headache, but we can help. This month, the Escentual beauty team has put some industries’ best dry shampoos to the test whether you’re after something invisible, tinted, or volusiming…

1. Bumble & Bumble Pret A Powder Invisible Nourishing Dry Shampoo
Best for: dry hair
Name: Ceryn
Job Role: Communications & Campaigns Assistant
Dry Shampoo: Bumble and bumble Prêt-à-Powder Trés Invisible (Nourishing) Dry Shampoo
What do you usually look for in a dry shampoo? I want a dry shampoo that’s quick and easy. That means no white marks; I have tried so many in the past that just turn me grey. It’s a nightmare and defeats the object. I spend more time working in the formula than I would be washing my hair.
What did you like most about the dry shampoo you tested? It’s invisible. It truly is; I put it to the ultimate test, spraying and spraying it. I also loved that it didn’t only cleanse your hair (a given for dry shampoo); it also smelt wonderful (light and floral) and gave my hair UV protection from the sun – I adore anything multi-purpose.
Who would you recommend the dry shampoo to? A few people. Firstly, someone who has dry or dark hair as this invisible, nourishing formula won’t turn you grey and will nourish it. Secondly, and quite obviously someone who has a busy lifestyle, perhaps a new mum because this dry shampoo is the ideal option if you don’t have time to wash your hair and don’t want anyone to know it. Last but not least, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, the added UV protection it gives your hair is reason enough to choose it over others.
Do you have any tips to share after reviewing this dry shampoo? Even when you don’t have greasy hair, use it for volume. It’s a beauty industry secret that’s gamechanging. Spray the dry shampoo close to the roots, work in the formula with your fingers and voila, full-bodied tresses!

2. Klorane Natural Tint Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
Best for: dark hair
Name: Keavy
Job Role: Communications & Campaigns Assistant
Dry Shampoo: Klorane Natural Tint Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
What do you usually look for in a dry shampoo? When it comes to finding the right dry shampoo, my answer is plain and simple: I want it to be invisible. My ideal Dry Shampoo is when my hair looks bouncy and clean after using and for everyone to be none the wiser. I’m lucky to find this one as it does this!
What did you like most about the dry shampoo you tested? Unlike a bigger dry shampoo brands I used to use for brunette hair (I’ll name no names!), this tinted formula doesn’t transfer or leave dark visible lines on your hairline – which for me is a must with dry shampoo! The formula is also extremely versatile and can be used for anything from stretching time between hair washes, correcting conditioner mishaps and adding a little umph to flat hair – it does it all!
Who would you recommend the dry shampoo to? I’d recommend this dry shampoo to anyone who has brunette hair who hates white marks, as well as any fans of the original Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo because it’s exactly like that but with a neutral tint for darker hair.
Do you have any tips to share after reviewing this dry shampoo? Spray from half an arm’s distance to the roots and shake hair (or brush) to eliminate product build-up in one area. If you’re looking for volume, don’t spray directly on top of your roots because you’re not trying to tackle grease or shine – spray under clean hair at the roots and watch your volume grow.

3. Vichy Dercos Nutrients Detox Dry Shampoo
Best for: oily scalps
Name: Kate
Job Role: Communications & Campaigns Assistant
Dry Shampoo: Vichy Dercos Nutrients Detox Dry Shampoo
What do you usually look for in a dry shampoo? I do have naturally drier hair, so I don’t often have to rely on dry shampoos (as my hair can last a long time without needing a wash!). But when I use them, I want something quick and easy to use, which also has an invisible finish (I want the lazy option that doesn’t require much effort to work the formula through!) Also, I like dry shampoos with pleasant scents but not ones that are overpowering if they’re in an aerosol form.
What did you like most about the dry shampoo you tested? I liked how instant and effortless this dry shampoo was to use, especially because you could just spritz it onto the scalp and quickly brush it through. I liked the fresh, mint-like scent too – it’s just want you want if your hair is in need of a wash but you don’t have time. Plus, I was really pleasantly surprised by how quickly it gave my hair a volume boost; this could be my new secret weapon.
Who would you recommend the dry shampoo to? This dry shampoo is targeted at hair and scalps that tend to get oily quickly, so I’d recommend it to anyone with that concern. But that being said, it takes my hair quite a few days before it can start showing as greasy. However, I still really enjoyed this dry shampoo – especially because it gave my hair shine and volume, so I’d also recommend it to anyone with duller or flatter tresses looking for a boost.
Do you have any tips to share after reviewing this dry shampoo? Run out of hairspray? This would make a quick-fix alternative, in my opinion. Although it won’t keep your hair put, it’ll add a little extra volume and body to give your hairstyle a little something extra.

4. Rausch Dry Shampoo Fresh Spray
Best for: someone who is vegan/eco-conscious
Name: Caitlin
Job Role: Communications & Campaigns Assistant
Dry Shampoo: Rausch Dry Shampoo Spray
What do you usually look for in a dry shampoo? Something that works quickly to refresh my hair without weighing it down.
What did you like most about the dry shampoo you tested? I love how fine and invisible it is! Some dry shampoos I’ve tried in the past leave a visible white residue (so gives the game away!) or leave your hair feeling heavy and powdery, which this one didn’t do at all. It’s practically translucent and so weightless, and I also love the fresh sweet scent!
Who would you recommend the dry shampoo to? As this one is vegan and cruelty free, this would be great for anyone looking to be a bit more eco-conscious with their beauty! It’s also perfect if – like me – you’ve been put off dry shampoos in the past because of powdery and visible formulas. It gets to work really quickly so is ideal for anyone looking for an instant refresh.
Do you have any tips to share after reviewing this dry shampoo? I like using this one even when my hair is clean as it gives a boosted texture and volume!
