Tom Ford Costa Azzurra Parfum Review
Share
Costa Azzurra Parfum is a Tom Ford fragrance I hadn’t heard much about, and that made me want to try it more. I’m familiar with Tom Ford’s bolder, darker aromas – as that’s what I’m usually drawn to. But Costa Azzurra errs on the lighter side. I wanted to see what it’s like when Tom Ford does ‘fresh’. Is it possible? Let’s find out…
Costa Azzurra Parfum Smells Like…
My Thoughts:
Spraying this perfume makes me think of leafy green plants, the warm glow from the sun and crashing, foamy waves. It smells like an expensive (adults-only) holiday to the French Riviera, minus the sunscreen smell. It’s not solar; it’s more aromatic.
The note structure is clever and makes sense. I could smell the cyprus immediately; it gives the whole scent a relaxed, breezy feel. I like to think that’s how the overgrown, wild trees in Costa Azzurra would smell. The addition of oakwood is very prevalent from start to finish. Oakwood isn’t warm; it’s a cool wood that works well with cypress’ menthol-like aroma. I can picture wild driftwood washed up on a beach. But the star (and the thing that gives the fragrance its warm, skin-like edge) is the salted amber, which you won’t find in Costa Azzurra Eau de Parfum.
As someone who normally avoids citrus-fougere fragrances, amber makes me lean towards Costa Azzurra Parfum more. I like the sea-salty skin aroma and warmth it creates.
Whereas Beau de Jour, Grey Vetiver and Costa Azzurra Eau de Parfum are on the lighter end of the Tom Ford fresh scale (1 being light and 10 being bold), I would say this perfume is a solid 4 for freshness, with Noir Extreme Parfum and Black Orchid Parfum landing in at a 10. So, this is the one to choose if your perfume choices are similar to mine and you want something fresher that still feels full-bodied to wear.
What Tom Ford Says:
Costa Azzurra Parfum breathes an air of freshness through crisp Italian lemon, while the dense coastal forest is felt with magnified oakwood extract and cypress. Stunning cistus absolute and a harmony of ambers are illuminated – capturing the spirit of private, unfettered luxury.
Costa Azzurra Parfum Notes:

What’s The Difference Between Costa Azzurra and Costa Azzurra Parfum?
On paper, Costa Azzurra and Costa Azzurra Parfum are classed as citrus-fougere fragrances, but they are very different from each other. Let’s start with the bottles. Costa Azzurra has a transparent glass bottle that looks gold, and Costa Azzurra Parfum has an opaque metallic gold bottle. The fragrances are similar but different, the key point of difference being the warm addition of amber that gives the Parfum its weight and extra longevity. Costa Azzurra original feels fresher and lighter to wear; it has more herbaceous tones that almost smell like a high-end mojito.
What’s The Story Behind This Scent?
Costa Azzurra is one of Mr Ford’s favourite places. To create this scent, he took cues from shimmering turquoise seas, salty skin, and flourishing ferns. When you spray it and close your eyes, it’s hard not to picture being on a sun lounger, not knowing what date or time it is – one can dream.
You Will Love This If…
If you like clean, sophisticated fragrances with a warm twist. The Parfum is strong enough to fill a room without overpowering it.
This Perfume Smells Similar To:
• Acqua di Parma Colonia C.L.U.B: Similar cool, crisp herby notes with a woody warmth.
• Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Wood & Wood: Similar freshness with lingering woody tones.
Is Costa Azzurra Parfum Unisex?
In my opinion, yes. I think that’s down to the amber. Out of both the original and Parfum, I would say this is more wearable for men and women because of its warmth.
What’s The Longevity Like?
I gave it a good spritz in the morning and, on my skin, it lasted around 6 hours and 8 hours on my hair. I could still smell it on my blazer the next day, so I’d give it 24 hours on clothes. It’s important to note, though, that longevity is subjective and based on your skin and environment. Tom Ford usually says each Parfum should last 6 to 9 hours, which was true for me.
What’s Special About The Bottle?
Costa Azzurra Parfum has one of the most striking bottles in the Signature Collection. Its mirror-like gold detail looks expensive. The devil is in the detail. When you get the box, you’ll see the fine art deco lines and the TF logo on the outer carton. Then, you open it and see the exact TF logo engraved on the cap. The bottle feels heavy and looks sleek in mirrored gold. The art deco lines are imprinted on the cap and the bottle; the design is the epitome of 70s glamour, which was part of the inspiration for this collection.
