New for September 2021, Parfums de Marly Oriana is a fresh, contemporary scent that ventures into slightly new territory for the beloved niche brand. Sweet, delicate and airy, Oriana Eau de Parfum is a uniquely irresistible perfume that blends fresh fruit, precious white petals and creamy sweet treats for a scent that’s to die for.

This Fragrance Smells Like…
Created by master perfumer Hamid Merati-Kashani, Oriana Eau de Parfum is crisp, sweet and addictive from the get-go. To me, it has an almost magical, ethereal quality. It’s sweet, playful and ever so subtly zesty at first, but it soon settles into a delicately floral heart before the smooth, warm and toasty base takes over – and trust me, it’s dangerously addictive.
But let’s explore this clever note structure in a little bit more detail. For an instantly fresh and uplifting aroma, the perfume opens with a citrus splash of juicy, honeyed mandarin, tart but sunny Italian bergamot and citrus-aromatic grapefruit. The heart blossoms into the fresh, sweet tone of suave orange blossom, balanced by fruity blackcurrant to result in a scent that exudes sophistication without overloading the senses with intoxicating, heady white florals. To round off the heart, crisp frosted raspberry with a rose-like nuance mingles between the fruit and petals before the fragrance descends into a cloud of softly sweet facets. Vanilla-laced Chantilly cream exudes an airy sweetness as it’s dolloped over powdery marshmallow. Musk mallow (also known as ambrette) distils a fresh and clean tone, while warm, sensual and comforting musk wraps you up in a cosy embrace. All in all, this base is sheer bliss.
What’s The Story Behind This Scent?
Oriana is a cloud of joy, a scent as light and airy as a muslin dress. Parfums de Marly’s exciting new elixir invites you into an addictive world of indulgence, a world of sweetness, softness and sensuality.
First launched in September 2021, Oriana marks a slightly new direction for the brand. It’s a lighter, fresher fragrance made for the 21st century and would make a great introduction to the brand for younger audiences stepping into Parfum de Marly’s world of French luxury for the first time.
You Will Love This If…
If you’re obsessed with delicate and sophisticated scents, but you also have an undeniably sweet tooth, you’ll love Parfums de Marly Oriana. To me, it’s sweeter, more modern and more playful than a lot of the perfume house’s existing fragrances, but of course, it’s still as clever as each aroma in the current lineup.
This Perfume Smells Similar To:
When I close my eyes and breathe in Oriana, it takes me to a luscious garden filled with fresh fruit, but it’s light and airy, so it almost feels as though you’re dreaming or recalling the aroma from a long-forgotten holiday. As you walk through this garden – perhaps it’s on the French Riviera – you’re met by just-ripe, juicy berries and delicate blossoming petals that gently perfume the air as a gentle breeze caresses your skin. Finally, you step inside and find your safe place, where you indulge in a warm, toasty dessert topped with a swirl of freshly whipped Chantilly cream and cloud-like marshmallows, a blanket wrapped around your legs as your worries ebb away.
Is Oriana Unisex?
Here at Escentual, we believe that fragrance has no gender. The most important thing about any scent is that the wearer loves it! So, if you’re a fan of sweet, crisp and dangerously addictive perfumes, then you’re bound to love Parfums de Marly Oriana.
That being said, I can see why Oriana Eau de Parfum is categorised as a fragrance for women; its sugary tones and delicate floral facets makes it a traditionally feminine scent.
What’s The Longevity Like?
Although I’ve described this fragrance as airy and delicate, don’t be fooled into thinking that this fragrance dissipates into the air in a matter of moments. A testament to Parfums de Marly’s fragrance prowess and their passion for using the finest quality ingredients, Hamid Merati-Kashani’s scent is impressively long-lasting. Personally, it well exceeded my expectations for a typical Eau de Parfum (four to five hours). I sprayed it on my wrist when I started work (at 8 a.m) and could smell its toasty base by the end of the working day!
What’s Special About The Bottle?
When we first launched Parfums de Marly here at Escentual, I was lucky enough to try every scent that we would stock – and I’ve also been lucky enough to test every single new release from the niche brand ever since! And each time, I’ve fallen in love with their classically elegant flacons, but this has to be my favourite Parfums de Marly design to date. I adore the vibrant, hot pink shade.
Of course, Oriana still retains the style and sophistication that I’ve come to expect from Parfums de Marly – from the seductively curved, hourglass shape to the silky tassels that adorn the neck. And not forgetting the raised detailing on the front, the glistening silver top with the brand’s iconic emblem, and the single pretty pink jewel set into the silver like a precious jewel. But despite all these intrinsically ‘Parfums de Marly’ details, the flacon stands out slightly from the current line due to its bold and playful bright pink hue. And let’s not forget that it stands tall within a soft, crushed velvet base – in the most striking pink shade, of course!
