Mugler Angel Elixir Eau de Parfum Review

hierry Mugler Angel Elixir Eau de Parfum Refillable Spray review

Angel Elixir is Mugler’s new perfume star of 2023. But how things have changed since Angel’s original perfume launch in 1992. In fashion terms, if the original Angel was an excessively sparkly ball gown in the 90s, Elixir is a corseted body suit that fits the body perfectly, both relevant and reflective of their era and the female silhouette.

Angel was Mugler’s debut in fragrance, and it was the first of its kind, the pioneer behind the gourmand fragrance family. That’s why it’s timeless because it broke so many rules back then. But, 30 years on, times have changed. Here’s why wer’e so excited…

Fans of the original Angel may feel Elixir isn’t as big and bold as the original; I get the feeling Elixir has been modernised to appeal to the woman of now; I can tell by how many people in the office love this version.

Over the years, I always knew Angel to be a marmite fragrance. Some found Angel too heavy, and others loved the boldness. Blame the patchouli. I’ve spent days and nights with Angel Elixir, and I’m confident Angel Elixr will appeal to anyone who didn’t get on with the original perfume. Here’s why…

Firstly, it’s utterly different to the original Angel, as Elixr is rich in vanilla and woods. The original was powered by patchouli and coumarin – this makes it more of a demure gourmand; to me, it’s a sweeter version of YSL Libre, as it’s got the strength and familiarity of orange blossom, but it doesn’t have the boldness of lavender as that one does.

This Fragrance Smells Like…

When I spray Elixr, I get hit with orange blossom straight away. I can sniff it out because it always reminds me of pledge polish, which I do love the smell of. As the puff of white floral slowly disperses, you start to get hints of sugared candy, which comes from the sweetness of vanilla. Amber is one of my favourite perfume notes because of the body and glow it gives scents. You can feel and smell the amber in Angel Elixr; it gives it that intergalactic 3D edge without being heavy or offensive.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

Angel is an icon. I will never forget growing up seeing the icy, glitter, baby blue coolness on the TV, from Naomi Watts to Eva Mendez and now Hunter Schafer, all stars in their own right, to match the 5-point star bottle of course.

If you look back on the Angel story and how the visuals and campaigns have evolved over the past 30 years, it’s clear Angel is all about exacerbated glamour and the feeling of being out of this world. I love that for 2023 Angel Elixr has reached its transformative era. Encouraging everyone to dig a little bit deeper to reveal their inner star.

You Will Love This If…

There are many reasons to love Angel Elixir by Mugler

Is Mugler Elixir Unisex?

Over the years, Angel has been the perfume of choice for all genders because of its spicy sweetness. However, Angel Elixir is marketed towards women, and the campaign messaging is very much about embracing your feminity, but it’s up to you to choose what smells good on you. In the black and white of it all, perfume has no gender.

What’s The Longevity Like?

I’ve been testing Angel Elixir and I would say it lasts around 4 hours on my skin and 24 hours on my jumper and coat.

Tip: You could boost longevity using the Angel body wash and lotion before spraying Elixir to your pulse points.

What’s Special About The Bottle?

The bottle is a literal star. Everyone knows the 5-point star is Mugler – great marketing. For Elixir, the bottle is now a midnight blue, whereas the other angels have been:

  • Angel Eau de Toilette has a blush pink juice inside a baby blue glass star to show it’s lightest concentration.
  • Angel Nova comes in a bright pink star bottle to represent its fruity-floral side.
  • Angel Eau de Parfum has an electric blue star bottle to represent it’s stronger than the EDT.
  • Angel Elixir has a black-blue glass bottle to show its intensity.
