How Do I Get Rid Of Forehead Wrinkles?
Share
Do you look in the mirror and repeatedly notice fine lines and wrinkles on your forehead? You’re not alone; it’s one of the first places to show signs of ageing for both women and men, and it’s where your body tends to show a lack of hydration. One of the most common skincare concerns amongst those over the age of 25, is it any wonder that ‘how do I get rid of the lines on my forehead, Lis?’ is one of the skincare questions I get asked the most by my family and friends? With this in mind, let’s get to the bottom of what causes forehead wrinkles, how to prevent them and how to treat the ones you have already.
What causes forehead lines?
Forehead lines can range from fine lines to deep wrinkles and are caused by the following factors:
• Genetic ageing – as with many skincare concerns, ageing plays a role in the development of forehead wrinkles; this is because the skin starts to lose its elasticity as well as collagen, causing the skin to weaken and wrinkle more easily.
• Sun exposure – excessive time spent in the sun, especially unprotected, can speed up the ageing process by damaging the body’s natural production of collagen.
• Repetitive face movements – forehead wrinkles tend to be common because our eyebrows are responsible for so many of our facial expressions.
How do I get rid of wrinkles on my forehead?
The good news is that some forehead lines and wrinkles can be reversed. If lines aren’t deeply set into the skin there are ways to reverse the damage. Wrinkles that are more deeply set in the skin may be more difficult to diminish, but some ways will quickly and effectively reduce their appearance.
How to prevent forehead wrinkles
• Wear a facial sunscreen (a minimum of SPF 30) every day. Without fail.
• Incorporate vitamin C into your skincare routine. It will help to boost collagen production and fight free radical damage that can cause the skin to age prematurely.
• Wear sunglasses– when outdoors or driving to prevent the face from squinting and frowning (and causing forehead wrinkles).
• Stay hydrated – if you are dehydrated, you will notice that the lines on your forehead become more prominent. Drink plenty of water to hydrate from the inside out and help to remove toxins and impurities.
• Adopt an anti-ageing skincare routine – look out for some of the ingredients listed below which not only help with existing fine lines and wrinkles but will also help to prevent further ones from forming.
The ingredients to look for
• Retinoids – a term used for compounds derived from vitamin A and other compounds that behave in a similar way to vitamin A. Retinol falls into this category and is a brilliant skincare solution to help reduce or prevent forehead lines. It works by stimulating collagen growth and works best at night. Note that it can cause irritation, so if you’re introducing a retinoid into your routine, make sure you start with a low percentage and wear sun protection daily.
• Hydroxy acids – glycolic acid, citric acid and lactic acid are all chemical exfoliants that are effective in not only removing dead skin cells for a smooth and refined complexion, but also help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
• Peptides – proteins that stimulate the growth of new cells and help with cell turnover while you sleep. They also help to stimulate collagen production to improve the complexion’s firmness and suppleness.
• Argireline – technically a peptide, but unique in its approach to the skin because it helps to reduce muscle movement. Targeting expression wrinkles, it’s one of the best alternatives to botox and also helps to stimulate collagen production, too.
• Hyaluronic acid – this skin-quenching ingredient can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water and is perfect for plumping out fine lines and making them visibly disappear.
1. The Forehead Freezing Peptide Treatment
Why is it good for reducing forehead wrinkles?
It contains a 10% Argireline peptide complex to help smooth out existing lines as well as prevent further ones from forming thanks to its botox-like qualities.
Star ingredients: Argireline peptide complex.
Texture: light, water-like consistency.
Scent: no scent.
Application: apply both morning and evening prior to heavier serums and creams.
Dubbed the ‘closest thing to botox you can get’ and at an affordable price point, this is an easy step you can add into your routine to help reduce existing forehead lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. It contains 10% Argireline, a synthetic peptide that has several different wrinkle-fighting and anti-ageing effects. The formula works by preventing the muscle movement that leads to wrinkle formation while at the same time it promotes collagen production. If you buy one product from this edit, let it be this and thank me later!
2. The skin-smoothing retinol
Why is it good for reducing forehead wrinkles?
Retinol is considered a key ingredient for targeting forehead wrinkles. It stimulates collagen production (to prevent lines from forming) and smooths skin to help reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles.
Star ingredients: retinol.
Texture: lightweight cream.
Scent: light, fresh scent.
Application: retinol can be applied both morning and evening but works better at night. Apply after your serum and before any moisturisers or oils and ensure you’re using an SPF on your face during the day while using a retinol treatment.
Retinol is another name for vitamin A and its derivatives, which are excellent for minimising the signs of skin ageing. All too often it is coupled with side effects such as irritation or dryness, especially for sensitive skin sufferers. The great thing about the La Roche-Posay Redermic cream is that it’s specially created for all skin types. It contains 0.3% retinol so it’s a great starting point if you’re new to retinol and works to transform the texture of your skin and reduce fine lines on the forehead.
3. The complexion refining chemical exfoliator
Why is it good for reducing forehead wrinkles?
It helps to resurface the skin to create a smoother surface so that fine lines and wrinkles are less pronounced.
Star ingredients: lactic acid.
Texture: liquid.
Scent: fresh, citrus scent.
Application: can be used both morning and evening; apply immediately after cleansing, and before the rest of your skincare routine.
A chemical exfoliator is always a good idea, in my opinion. It can tackle a multitude of skincare woes – including fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead area. The REN Ready Steady Glow Tonic is so easy to add to your daily routine; I pop a little on a cotton pad every morning and sweep it over my face before the rest of my skincare routine. The best part is, it’s gentle enough to use every day, even for sensitive skin, and it’s also hydrating so it won’t cause additional dehydration lines on your forehead.
4. The skin-plumping hyaluronic acid serum
Why is it good for reducing forehead wrinkles?
It will help to plump out any fine lines and wrinkles as it intensely hydrates the skin.
Star ingredients: hyaluronic acid.
Texture: lightweight gel serum.
Scent: fresh scent.
Application: can be applied both morning and evening before heavier serums, moisturisers and oils.
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most coveted skincare ingredients thanks to its ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water. But what does that mean for your forehead lines and wrinkles?
To put it simply, it plumps the skin from within. The Institut Esthederm Hyaluronic Serum boasts an exclusive combination of three forms of pure hyaluronic acid, which penetrate deep down into all layers of the epidermis, moisturising the skin’s surface and deep down. It helps with existing wrinkles but also prevents dehydration lines from becoming a problem, too.
5. The wrinkle blurring primer
Why is it good for reducing forehead wrinkles?
A primer won’t get rid of forehead wrinkles but it’s a good way of making them look less noticeable.
Star ingredients: gluconolactone (a peeling-like ingredient), hexapeptide (relaxes expression lines), NCTF (Filorga’s exclusive anti-ageing complex) and hyaluronic acid.
Texture: thick velvety gel-cream.
Scent: strong floral scent – but it doesn’t linger on the skin
Application: apply after your SPF, prior to your makeup application.
A smoothing primer is an ideal way to reduce the tell-tale signs of ageing on the forehead. A smoothing primer that also contains a plethora of anti-ageing ingredients, will tighten the skin and provide an ideal base for makeup is what beauty dreams are made of!
It includes a peeling ingredient that gently reduces surface wrinkles as well as a special peptide that will target contraction wrinkles (wrinkles that appear when you move your face) by relaxing the muscles. All of this, plus a hit of hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump; it will blur your fine lines and wrinkles into oblivion!
