Guy Laroche Fidji Eau de Parfum Review

Guy Laroche Fidji Eau de Parfum for review

Launched in 1966 by French fashion designer Guy Laroche, the tagline “Woman is an island, Fidji is her perfume”, Fidji Eau de Parfum is a fragrance that has spanned almost 6 decades. The legendary fragrance is the signature scent of a generation.

What Does It Smell Like:

Fidji Eau de Parfum has an iconic, powdery green floral aura. This was my late Nan’s signature scent, so a whiff takes me straight back to playing with her makeup at her dressing table when I was a child.

The general aroma of Fidji Eau de Parfum is clean, feminine, soapy and timeless. When we unpack each element of the fragrance and take a closer look at the notes we can start to understand the vision of a tropical island that Guy Laroche was creating with the fragrance back in 1966.

A colourful bouquet of galbanum and iris melds with zesty lemon, tantalising jasmine and fruity ylang-ylang as deep echoes of musk and earthy patchouli reflect the sweetness of the sunset against a remote island.

Perfumes That Smell Similar Are…

Aire Loewe by Loewe – these fragrances have green floral accords with identical notes, including mysterious galbanum, sweet ylang-ylang, juicy mandarin and feminine rose.

Fidji Eau de Parfum’s Longevity…

This perfume has a strong floral redolence that remains on the skin for up to 8 hours. It has this amazing ability to cling to clothing, I can still smell it on my sleeves a whole day after spraying it. The scent silage is moderate-strong, so people will notice you as you waft past.

Fidji Eau de Parfum Wears Well During…

Fidji Eau de Parfum was first marketed as a summer fragrance due to its tropical, balmy notes. However, I think this fragrance is a fabulous scent to wear during every season. It’s got an uplifting floral aroma that is toned down with powdery, clean musky notes making it super versatile.

My Overall Experience

As soon as I took my first whiff of this scent I was transported back to Sunday mornings at my Nan’s house, rummaging through her makeup as a child. I love how fragrances can take you back to particular life points, stir emotions and evoke beautiful memories.

It may not be my choice of fragrance, as choosing a scent is so personal to us. However, I can appreciate Fidji Eau de Parfum’s legendary status in the fragrance world and its balmy, warm and fresh aroma. I have even taken a vial home to have a little whiff of it to reawaken the memories of my beloved Nan.

You Will Love Fidji Eau de Parfum If…

If you love iconic, vintage, timeless scents. Fidji is essentially a piece of history. Also, if you love fresh, soapy, powdery floral scents.
