GUERLAIN Nahema Eau de Parfum Review

GUERLAIN have curated the Legendary fragrance collection to celebrate perfumes that revolutionised the modern fragrance world and have – you guessed it – legendary tales behind them.

Adding to the line in 1979, Nahema Eau de Parfum took four years and over 500 attempts to create and perfect. Born from the secret molecule that lies at the centre of a rose, Nahema is set apart from other rose-based scents. The fruity-floral oriental fragrance is saturated with rose but takes a few unexpected twists along the way. Read on to find out more…

This Fragrance Smells Like…

Starting with a velvety, romantic rose tone, Nahema celebrates the countless varieties of rose and the natural sweetness of a fresh bouquet. Hyacinth swells at the heart of the fragrance alongside passion fruit and peachy, creating an enticing green tangent before the rose re-asserts itself as the dominant scent. Sandalwood and patchouli rise up from the base to add an oriental twist, adding an enticing, exotic edge to the rose-powered aroma.

What’s The Story Behind This Scent?

Inspired by the Scheherazade story in ‘One Thousand and One Nights’, Nahema Eau de Parfum tells the tale of identical twin princesses whose looks are the only similarities they share. Mahane was gentle and caring, reflected in the sweeter fruity-floral notes. But master perfumer, Jean Paul-Guerlain, was enthralled by the other twin: Nahema. A headstrong and passionate woman, she had a fire burning through her; this inspired the rich oriental sandalwood base of the fragrance and the way the rose won’t let go of your senses.

You Will Love This If…

If you love rose scents and you’re looking for a deep fragrance that isn’t too heavy or musky, you will love Nahema. The fruity-floral fragrance is also chypre, woody and exotic to appeal to a variety of fragrance lovers without losing its rose signature.

This Perfume Smells Similar To:

Nahema feels like an evening stroll amongst blossoming rose bushes as you wait for your daring evening of adventure to begin.

Is Nahema Unisex?

Fragrance can be enjoyed by anybody, regardless of gender. That said, Nahema certainly has a more traditionally feminine feel to it, due to its heavy rose presence.

What’s The Longevity Like?

The initial lightness of Nahema dies down quickly to make way for the fruity, woody and chypre tones that last for hours on the skin; it lasted around eight hours on my skin when I tested it out.

What’s Special About The Bottle?

Romantic rose and statuesque glamour is reflected in the iconic GUERLAIN ‘inverted heart’ glass bottle. Designed by Raymond Guerlain, the heart-shaped lid is a real show-stopper, sitting on top of the beautiful honeyed-gold perfume that’s adorned with graceful scrolls typical of the Art Nouveau movement.
