GUERLAIN Apres L'Ondee Eau de Toilette Review

Like rays of sunshine bursting through the clouds after the rain, GUERLAIN Apres L’Ondee Eau de Toilette creates a delightful moment of serenity. When I first spritzed Apres L’Ondee, I was instantly reminded of the spring days of my childhood when I would run through dewy grass in my wellies, before stopping short at the stunning iris flowers that line my grandparent’s garden.
As GUERLAIN’s timeless fragrance settles on the skin, it becomes warm and sophisticated but the powdery flowers still bring a sense of joy to the wearer and those around them.
This Fragrance Smells Like…
Apres L’Ondee’s iris and violet tone creates a powdery feel that drives the entire fragrance, whilst the almost herbal tone of the aniseed top note adds a subtle spice to the floral bouquet.
When first spritzed, Apres L’Ondee has a beautiful tenderness and delicate muskiness that is uncannily reminiscent of the smell of fresh rain before the powdery florals settle. The florals are not a typical bouquet of flowers, instead having a green tinge with an underlying sweet, cosy oriental feel that’s created by the warm vanilla base.
What’s The Story Behind This Scent?
Translating from the French to mean ‘after the rain’, Apres L’Ondee Eau de Toilette celebrates the glorious sunshine that breaks through the clouds after the rain has passed – and this moment of natural optimism is just as relatable now as it was when Apres L’Ondee was first created by Jacques Guerlain in 1906. Incredibly, the unique aroma of a meadow after a heavy downpour has been captured as Apres offers a certain freshness combined with powdery florals.
You Will Love This If…
If you love traditional, powdery fragrances you’ll love GUERLAIN Apres L’Ondee. The fragrance is an emotive fragrance that evokes images of dew-drenched florals, making it truly worthy of its legendary status.
This Perfume Smells Similar To:
Apres L’Ondee is similar to another GUERLAIN Legendary fragrance: L‘Heure Bleue. Both inspired by the countryside, Apres L’Ondee has a delicate post-rain tone whilst L’Heure Bleue has a more prominent aniseed note for a richer and more intense fragrance.
Is Apres L’Ondee Unisex?
We believe that fragrance has no gender and that scent preference is unique to every individual. But if you prefer to wear perfumes marketed towards women, then you’ll love Apres L’Ondee; its floral and powdery tone makes it a more traditionally feminine fragrance.
What’s The Longevity Like?
Apres L’Ondee is delicate to begin but with a few spritzed it makes for a subtle yet long-lasting Eau de Toilette.
What’s Special About The Bottle?
Apres L’Ondee’s almost entirely clear fragrance exudes an air of elegance as it’s showcased within GUERLAIN’s timeless ‘inverted heart’ bottle, designed by Raymond Guerlain. This hollowed heart style evokes a sense of romanticism , while it represented a real technical feat at the time. The glass also flaunts graceful scrolls typical of the Art Nouveau movement, which add a sophisticated nuance to the fragrance.
To complete Apres L’Ondee’s look, the purple emblem on the front of the glass reflects the violet and iris flowers within, while the transparent glass is reminiscent of clear puddles settling after a storm.
