Fans of neutrals, rejoice! Clarins has launched ‘The Essentials’ Eye Make-Up Palette, a beautiful, limited edition collection of wearable eye shades in soft textures that will effortlessly take you from day to night.
The recyclable Clarins The Essentials palette is made of sturdy cardboard with a protective plastic overlay to ensure it doesn’t buckle at the first sign of moisture. It feels quite substantial in hand, it’s definitely at the more luxurious end of the everyday eye palette spectrum, and has an elasticated band to hold it shut when it’s not in use. Open it up to reveal a mirror in the lid and a double ended eye applicator, which is made from sustainable birch.
If you’ve tried the Clarins Mineral Eye Quartet, you’ll know just how beautiful Clarins’ eyeshadow is. The shades are pigmented and velvety with minimal drop out, and they remain colour-true throughout the day.
These are the ‘light’ shades of Clarins The Essentials, perfect for highlighting and layering on top of the darker shades in the palette, and also very pretty as a wash of colour across the entire lid.
From left to right:
1 nude peach satin, a wonderful base shade
2 pale golden pearl, ideal for highlighting the brow and the inner corner of the eye
3 pale rose gold pearl, a warm highlighting shade
4 rosewood satin, a deeper base shade
5 taupe grey pearl, for the eye socket and outer corners
Each of these ‘darker’ shades are ideal for blending into the eye socket, and can be mixed and matched to create your ideal smoky eye.
From left to right:
6 golden taupe pearl, a warm tone which makes blue eyes ‘pop’
7 mid brown pearl, a suits-all colour
8 taupe beige pearl, a cooler shade for cooler tones
9 rosewood pearl, an interesting shade of brown with pink undertones
10 deepest brown pearl, perfect for lining the eye.
When you first open the palette, the usual protective overlay over the shadows has a pretty cool (and functional!) design on it. Not only does it number the colours for you for quick reference, but it also has a paint-by-numbers guide to combining the colours for a daytime eye and a more dramatic night time look. Easy peasy!
