Amouage Overture Man Eau de Parfum Review
Share
Overture Man was first released in 2019 and was previously only available in Harrods London and selected Amouage boutiques. I’m very excited to announce that we’re now stocking it here at Escentual – I know this news will intrigue my fellow niche fragrance fans!
Amouage Overture Man Eau de Parfum is a dramatic, bold and confident woody-spicy signature that blends hot spice with rich woods and warming amber facets for a scent that’s impossible to ignore. Renowned perfumer Karine Vinchon-Spehner created it. Read on to discover more about this exhilarating niche fragrance…
This Fragrance Smells Like…
Amouage Overture Man starts with a rich, seductive spiciness that draws you in from the very first spritz. The citrusy, aromatic freshness of grapefruit stands out against the searing heat of saffron, cardamom, cumin, ginger and nutmeg, which become hazy and heady thanks to a splash of cognac. As the fragrance evolves, it reveals a softer and more subdued heart laced with resinous floral notes; the heart is led by myrrh and geranium, giving the creation a sophisticated edge as it develops. Finally, Overture Man Eau de Parfum reveals a smoky woodiness with a rich, ambery edge as creamy sandalwood pairs with smoky leather, clary sage, burning incense and a unique animalic accord.
What’s The Story Behind This Scent?
All Amouage fragrances draw inspiration from music, travel and life experiences. Overture Man tells a tale of a gentleman poised for an elegant evening at the opera; he’s wearing the finest dinner jacket accented by a moiré silk cummerbund and bow tie. As you breathe in the scent, you can almost picture this individual taking his seat in the audience, eager for the performance to begin…
The perfumer explains the inspiration in more detail: “When I created Overture Man, I envisioned the strong emotions the audience of the opera feels when hearing the opening and the debut of a young opera singer. It’s a piece that alternates slow and fast rhythms to set you in the mood for what follows. That’s why I used some contrasting raw materials, to reflect this alternation of rhythms.” – Karine Vinchon-Spehner.
You Will Love This If…
You’ll love Amouage Overture Man if you love heavily spiced scents that exude a heady ambery warmth.
This Perfume Smells Similar To:
Overture Man has a vibrant, confident scent that can be compared to the scent of a marketplace in the sweltering heat of summer when the aromas of spice fill the air.
Is Amouage Overture Man Unisex?
As the name suggests, Overture Eau de Parfum is marketed as a fragrance for men; it does have a more traditionally masculine edge within the world of perfume, although anyone who appreciates opulently spiced signatures will enjoy this.
What’s The Longevity Like?
I’m yet to be disappointed by the longevity of an Amouage fragrance, Overture Man included. It blows your expectations out of the water, offering an incredibly long-lasting fragrance. When I tried it on my wrists, I could still make out its warm, resinous undertones an impressive ten hours after application.
What’s Special About The Bottle?
Enclosed in a box reminiscent of a gentleman dressed for the opera, Overture Man has initially hidden away. But upon opening the box, you’ll see Amouage’s signature glass bottle in a frosted finish, topped with a magnetic bronze cap that reflects on the warm spices within and the golden tint of the perfume itself.
