5 Fragrances We Love But Never Wear

Some things in life are best to keep for yourself or best. They’re so beautiful or precious that experiencing them every day seems like an injustice to them; they need to be enjoyed, savoured even. These objects range from your best china to your most prized jewellery, or in this instance, a cherished perfume. I asked the Escentual team to share the one scent they hold in this high acclaim, the single eau they love but rarely or ever wear; here’s what they said…

1. Because It’s For Best

Fragrance We Love But Never Wear

Do you have a fragrance for best? I do, so much so, I haven’t bought it yet; I’ve sworn to myself I will only buy it when I feel I have accomplished goals I have set myself, as it signifies special memories for me.

I only spray Moonlight Patchouli at work, as it’s a sweet reminder of where I started. I’ll never forget how lucky I felt smelling this fragrance for the first time in a strategy meeting; straight away, I thought, this is what success smells like, and I’m going to own this one day.

2. Because It’s Nostalgic

Fragrances We Love But Don't Wear; Cacharel Anais Anais Eau de Toilette Spray

My daughter, Caitlin, an Escentual Beauty Team Member introduced me to the #EscentualScents floral box, which featured Anais Anais by Cacharel. As soon as I tried the first blind vial, it instantly made me think of my grandma and being a little girl and smelling this perfume on her; it made me quite emotional! I didn’t even realise it was Anais Anais; I then bought a bottle of it so I could spray it and think of her; even though it’s not a scent I would particularly wear or choose for myself, it just brings back so many happy memories and reminds me of her. I did actually wear it to work since buying it, and straight away, someone said, “are you wearing Anais Anais? I haven’t smelled that in years!” which shows how distinctive and familiar it is to many people.

3. Because It Smells Good

Fragrances We Love But Don't Wear; Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Eau de Parfum Spray

Have you ever had a perfume that you like to smell, but when you wear it, it just doesn’t feel ‘you’? That’s Flowerbomb for me. On paper, it should be everything I like; hot white flowers, sweet roses, oodles and oodles of spun sugar, and a dash of patchouli for contrast, and I do like it, but when I wear it, I feel like I’m wearing someone else’s clothes. It’s like a pair of shoes a size too big or a shirt in a colour that doesn’t quite go. So instead of a fragrance I enjoy and wear often, Flowerbomb has become a fragrance I like to keep on hand to sniff now and then because, after all, it really does smell very good!

4. Because It’s ‘Their’ Scent

Fragrances We Love But Don't Wear; Versace Eros Eau de Parfum Spray

A favourite fragrance doesn’t have to be one you wear; one of mine is Versace Eros Eau de Parfum. My boyfriend wears this scent, which is why I love it. One spritz of this fresh woody aroma, and I instantly think of him so much that the refreshing aroma is more comforting to me than anything. Despite loving it so, I don’t think I could ever wear this scent, it wouldn’t feel quite right, but if my partner’s ever away for the weekend or want to think of him, I do sneak in a few sprays!

5. Because It’s Too Pretty

Fragrances We Love But Never Wear; Parfums de Marly Delina Eau de Parfum Spray

A fragrance I love but don’t wear enough is Parfums de Marly Delina; it is luxury in a scent! It is on the pricey side (so I save it for best), but it’s so worth it! No matter how little I spray, someone always compliments how I smell (even on my coat a few days later). I couldn’t imagine anyone not liking this scent; it’s very floral (peony, my fave!) with a hint of fruitiness, and the bottle is perfect for any dressing table.
