How many myths have you heard about skincare oils? Good, or bad, I bet you can count them on both hands.

I wanted to put an end to the confusion; so I invited Mazia, Nuxe’s Head of Education to join me for a #NightInWithEscentual to tell me everything she knows about beauty oils; after all, Nuxe are behind the legend that is: Huile Prodigieuse.

Whether you avoid oils because you’ve got oily skin; or perhaps, you have an oil sitting in your beauty collection because you don’t know how to apply it, scroll to read the best bits from our Instagram live.

New to Nuxe? The nature-inspired French skincare brand is all about plant-power. Aliza Jabes, the Founder and CEO of Nuxe got her first lab 1990 after being inspired by plants and her father’s pharmacy background. One year later, she created her dream product; a natural and instant beauty fix for all lifestyles: Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (France’s best-selling oil for the face, hair and body).

Our Topic: Why You Need An Oil In Your Beauty Routine

1. Skincare oils are multi-purpose and can be used by ALL skin types.

Most oils can be used on the face, body and hair to hydrate and nourish. To reassure, Nuxe’s collection of dry oils contain a minimum of 96.6% natural origin ingredients without silicones, mineral oils or preservatives.

2. Always use oils with antioxidant ingredients.

Look out for antioxidants like vitamin E and argan oil to repair the skin. They will also help boost collagen and strengthen the skin’s elasticity.

3. Oils help slow down the ageing process.

As we age, the skin starts to produce less oil and starts to become dehydrated; this means wrinkles become more pronounced and exaggerated. Using a skincare oil daily will help to rebalance your skin’s oil production while keeping your skin supple and youthful over time. Nuxe’s dry oils contain 7 botanicals, but the important ingredient that helps firm and smooth the skin is borage oil.

4. Dry skin? Look out for…

Hazelnut and camelia oil (omega 9s) are unsaturated fatty acids that hydrate and nourish. Nuxe Riche is the best option for dry skin on the face, body, hands, hair and feet!

5. Sensitive skin? Look out for…

Almond oil and macadamia will comfort itchy, compromised skin. Nuxe Riche will soothe and calm dry, sensitive skin as it has the highest concentration of macadamia oil.

6. Oily skin? Look out for…

Tsubaki oil. These fatty acids rebalance oil skin to stop your skin overproducing sebum while protecting the skin’s natural barrier. It’s also important to use a dry oil if you have oily skin, as you will prefer its non-greasy finish and quick-drying texture.

7. Skincare oils should be the final step in your routine.

Always remember, the order of your skincare (after cleansing) should be thinnest to thickest. Waterbased products like serums, moisturisers and essences won’t penetrate through the molecular structure of oil, but SPF always goes last!

8. Hair: Oils can help strengthen and smooth frizzy hair.

Even if you have fine hair, oil will help to strengthen and nourish the hair cuticle and stop breakage. Fatty acids and vitamin E in oils help to form a protective antioxidant layer on your hair; they also create a barrier against moisture loss and humidity.

You can use the Nuxe oils to prevent frizz and flyaways; use it as a pre-treatment shampoo to give yourself a scalp massage. Each bottle smooths the hair follicle as it has argan oil in. Argan oil’s sterol count is perfect for smoothing and deeply conditioning hair – just don’t use too much; spray on your brush and comb through, or apply 1-2 pumps on damp hair for the best results.

9. Oils to avoid are…

Coconut oil can make you break out as it’s quite heavy.
