7 Things We Learnt About Home Fragrance From Acqua di Parma
Share
We’ve spent more time than ever at home in recent months, so we thought there’s no better time to talk home fragrance than right now. We haven’t messed around either; we called in the experts to give you the lowdown on scenting your home on #NightInWithEscentual. The Escentual host was none other than Thomas a.ka. The Candy Perfume Boy and the iconic Italian brand, Acqua di Parma who are world-renowned for their perfumes and colognes joined him.
Our Topic: How to Uplift Your Home With Fragrance
1. Home Fragrance is Like Set Dressing
Home fragrance allows you to change the atmosphere in your living space. You can choose to scent rooms differently depending on the mood you’d like to create. Whether you want to relax in the bath, freshen-up the kitchen, or create a cosy feeling in the bedroom, home perfume can do just that.
2. Fragrance Diffusers Create a Permanent Backdrop of Scent
Reed diffusers are the home fragrance choice if you want the aroma to linger. Over time, the reeds absorb the oil and release the scent into the air. Acqua di Parma recommends starting with 2-3 reeds in your diffuser for a subtle aroma, or if you’d prefer a more intense perfume add more.

3. You Need to Turn Your Diffuser Reeds Frequently
Every time you turn the reeds in your diffuser, you’ll get a burst of perfume. Do this 2-3 times a week to keep your space scented. A top tip is to turn them just before guests come over, so there’s a wave of incredible scent!
4. Choose Candles When You Want to Create an Ambiance
Whereas diffusers emit a constant fragrance, candles are great for a mood boost. Whether you have guests coming over and want your home to smell inviting, or you’re organising a candlelit dinner, lighting a candle is a surefire way to create a ‘feeling’.

5. Not Every Fragrance Will Work in Every Room
What scent you put in the rooms of your home is entirely your choice. However, it’s worth noting that some smells won’t work as well in specific spaces. For example, grapefruit is a no-no in the bathroom as it can amplify unwanted scents. It’s best to test out your home fragrances in different areas to see what works best.
6. Don’t Burn Your Candles for More Than an Hour and a Half
Get the most out of your candle by burning it for no more than one hour and a half at any one time. If you do this with your Acqua di Parma candles, you’ll get up to 50 hours worth of burning time and prevent tunnelling, which happens when a candle burns down its centre, leaving a tunnel of hard wax around the outside.
7. A Wick Trimmer and Snuffer is a Worthwhile Investment
It’s important to look after your candles. Put them out gently with a snuffer (this helps the fragrance linger rather than the smell of smoke), and trim the wick to 1cm to reduce the amount of soot as you burn.
