6 Products We’ve Bought on a Recommendation and Loved
Share
There’s nothing better than makeup or skincare that comes with a recommendation is there? A tried and tested stamp of approval that gives you the confidence to buy something, knowing that it will work or look good. Which got me thinking; what products have our Escentual team, experts within the beauty industry, bought on a recommendation from someone else? I made it my mission to find out, and share them with you. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I’ve influenced a purchase or two, too!
1. The ‘Intensely Nourished Lips’ Balm
It goes without saying that we all recommend products to each other at work! Kate loves the @NuxeUK Reve de Miel lip balm, have you tried it? pic.twitter.com/TYWWMF8U80

Although the Nuxe Reve de Miel Honey Lip Balm was recommended to me by Caitlin, it’s popular with the whole team.
If I’m honest, the reason I bought this lip balm was because of the way that the scent was described. The vibrant, uplifting aroma blends juicy grapefruit with citrus oils to create a delicious, summery fragrance.
Although I initially bought this because of the scent, I’ve fallen in love with the balm itself. Its 90% natural formula helps to restore, soothe and soften the lips – I love to pop it on overnight to wake up to intensely nourished lips.
Now, I can’t live without the Reve de Miel balm. I’m obsessed with its fresh, fruity aroma and I can’t wait to see it work wonders on dry, chapped lips during the colder months.

2. The ‘Natural and Flawless’ Foundation
It seems that @EscentualLis has a bigger influence on the team than she thought! @EscentualKeavy is obsessed with the @ParfumsGivenchy City Balm because it’s the perfect combination of matte and glow with added skincare benefits! pic.twitter.com/GzjkY89vXB

You know when you see your friend in a stunning new dress, and you buy it in the hope that it’ll look just as good on you. Sound familiar? It does to me because that’s what happened when I saw Lis wear GIVENCHY City balm.
When City Balm entered the office, it went straight on my wishlist. Why? Well, for a start, it’s GIVENCHY and what girl could say no to that? Next, is its formula, which on paper boasts an impressive list of benefits: 24-hour hydration, natural finish and SPF25 high PA++ to protect against ageing blue and UVA light. But what made me buy it? Lis was modelling it for a photoshoot at work, and I had to have it; natural and flawless, the formula makes your complexion look like you’re always having a good skin day, which is all I want from a foundation. Now, I consider it a staple – thanks, Lis!

3. The ‘Weekend In France’ Bronzer
Who else has a beauty recommendation from a family member? 😊@EscentualChels is a huge fan of @Guerlain Terracotta bronzers since her Mum got her hooked on them a few years ago! pic.twitter.com/NmIOefPGxx
— Escentual (@escentual) August 27, 2020
Technically, this isn’t a recommendation. But for 30 years, my Mum has coveted this bronzer over anything else in her makeup bag; so the younger, more intrigued me had to see what the fuss was about, and of course, steal it – I’m sure this is where my love for beauty all began!
I’m forever grateful for my Mum’s taste in bronzers, as 20 years later, it’s become a family tradition. Terracotta now belongs in mine, my sister and my Mum’s makeup bags.
There’s nothing quite like a Guerlain glow; in a few sweeps, this powder re-creates a ‘just stepped off the plane after a weekend in France look’ that’s tough to replicate. But my favourite part is its tropical scent; the moment of escapism it gives always reminds me of her, and how I watched in awe as she applied her makeup. I can’t wait to pass this on to future generations too.
4. The ‘Holy Grail’ Red Lipstick
If you’re after a holy grail red lipstick, you can’t go wrong with the @Shiseido_UK ModernMatte Powder lipstick in ‘Exotic Red’ – Caitlin is obsessed since she saw @EscentualLis wearing it! pic.twitter.com/Qizm0l3cHX
— Escentual (@escentual) August 26, 2020
When I’d first started working at Escentual, I remember Lis came into the office wearing the most amazing red lip. I asked her what it was after lunch, and she told me it was the Shiseido ModernMatte Powder Lipstick in Exotic Red – and that she’d eaten lunch and it still hadn’t budged or bled. The ModernMatte lipstick quickly became my holy grail red lipstick – it instantly adds a pop of colour to my appearance while giving my confidence a boost. A blue-toned deep red, the vibrant colour is long-lasting and hydrating. Despite being a matte lipstick, the creamy formula feels so comfortable on the lips and doesn’t dry them out; you actually forget you’re wearing it. Since Lis recommended the ModernMatte lipstick, it’s become my new go-to for hydrating matte lips dressed in bold, beautiful colour.
5. The ‘Supersoft Skin’ Body Wash
If @EscentualLis has bought 10 bottles of something based on a recommendation – you know it’s going to be good! pic.twitter.com/Jc1NvyMQHm
— Escentual (@escentual) August 26, 2020
It’s no secret that the Escentual Beauty Team is borderline obsessed with Nuxe Reve de Miel (hence Kate’s favourite above!). Before working at Escentual, I was already a huge fan of this lip balm but hadn’t tried anything from the rest of the range. A couple of years later and I’ve tried (and loved!) everything and continue to repurchase.
The one product that stands out to me though is the Reve de Miel body wash. I was triggered to buy this after watching an Instagram story of a friend who’s also a skincare buff. She was raving about how it made her skin supersoft – I immediately went to work the following day and bought it. That was a year ago, and I haven’t looked back – it’s the only body product I use in the shower now and I will never be without a bottle! Not only is it kind to my sensitive skin, but it also leaves it beautifully hydrated and soft to the touch. The smell is delectable – a mix of honey and citrus, and as I’m a bit of a packaging snob when it comes to my bathroom I love how it looks, too!
6. The Antidote to ‘Chapped and Sore’ Lips
.@EscentualCeryn recommends this @Eucerin lip balm to everyone and has one on her desk, at home, in her bag and in her car (obsessed!) but did you know she bought it on a recommendation originally? pic.twitter.com/7VzgLJAzqF
— Escentual (@escentual) August 26, 2020
Who didn’t recommend this lip balm to me is the real question. I hoard lip balms because I have the world’s driest, eczema-prone lips, and found that everyone was raving about this one. After the third recommendation, I had to see what all the fuss was about and added it to my basket. I haven’t looked back since; not only does the lip balm hydrate but it soothes too, thanks to added liquorice extract, which is a blessing for itchy lips like mine! Now, I don’t just repurchase it; I have one in my handbag, in my bedside table, and my car. If your lips are always chapped and sore, try this!
