I love this time of year – wrapping up warm during the day, sitting in front of roaring log fires in the evening, and getting excited about the lead-up to Christmas. But if there’s one thing I struggle with every year, it’s the clocks going back. I find it impossible to get out of bed when it’s still dark and get myself into the shower – and I often still feel half asleep when I settle down to work.
Along with a couple of cups of strong coffee, my autumn and winter mornings rely on a selection of energising and uplifting beauty products. So here’s how I manage to drag myself from bed to desk in the morning…
7.30am – Clarins One Step Exfoliating Cleanser, £15.12
A splash of water on the face is a great energiser – so before I even open the shower door, I start by cleansing my skin. I like this particular cleanser as it contains two types of microbeads to clear pores and gently smooth away dead skin cells. The sensation on skin, along with the water itself, gets the blood flowing – a great wake up call to both my skin and mind.
7.35am – Roger & Gallet Citron Refreshing Shower Gel, £11.50
With top notes of lemon, grapefruit, and mint, this energising, mind-clearing shower gel takes me straight back to summer holidays. I’m tempted to spend far too long in the shower and put myself behind schedule, but at least I leave the cubicle feeling a little more human. The silky gel leaves skin laced in the scent too, which is a big bonus.
7.45am – Caudalie Grape Water, £6.50
Instead of a toner, I use this refreshing grape water on skin before applying my moisturiser. It’s a great pick-me-up for the complexion – and well worth stashing in your handbag for use throughout the day (especially if you travel on public transport or work in a stuffy office).
7.47am – Nuxe 24hr Energising Moisture Cream, £27
Whether it’s a dull skin tone, dark circles, or bags under my eyes, I always feel that my skin looks more tired in the winter months – especially early in the morning. This luxurious moisturiser helps to wake it up, with Honey, Yeast, Chicory, Arnica, and Rice Bran extracts to energise the skin. The delicate fragrance helps me to wake up too, with uplifting notes of Neroli and Sweet Orange.
8.15am – Tisserand Roll-On Remedy Energise Roller Ball, £5.25
With makeup and hair styled, I’m ready to walk out the door – but before I do, I apply Tisserand’s clever energy-boosting roller ball to pulse points. It contains organic bergamot oil, grapefruit oil, and lime oil, which combine to powerfully boost energy levels. If I feel energy levels starting to sag during the day (or on the commute home, when it’s dark and cold again), the light, handbag-friendly roller ball is the first thing I reach for.
