Vichy Dermablend Corrective Make-Up Collection

I’m a huge fan of Vichy Dermablend. The Corrective Fluid Foundation is an essential in my makeup routine when bad skin days inevitably rear their head, and I find nothing else comes close to its reliable blend of flawlessness and wearability. So you’ll understand, then, why I’m excited for this whole host of new additions to the much-loved Dermablend Corrective collection – and I’m sure you will be, too.

Alongside two brand new corrective products there’s a bit of the ol’ switcharoo with an old favourite, which receives a makeover to bring it in line with the rest of the range. Read on, Dermablend fans, for all of the information you need…

Corrective Compact Cream Foundation

Brand new to the range is the multi-functional Dermablend Corrective Compact Cream Foundation, a handy make-up compact designed primarily for use on the complexion, though it can also be used elsewhere on the body for quick touch-ups throughout the day. It conceals all manner of imperfections including dark circles, acne, scarring and redness, to more serious skin conditions like vitiligo.

Presented in a slimline, black plastic compact complete with mirror and sponge, the new Compact Cream is a great size at 9.5g. It’s not so large that it’s cumbersome, but big enough that you’re getting a good amount of creamy foundation for your buck.

The medium coverage formula is very well balanced. It takes aspects of the Dermablend Fluid Foundation’s tactile satin texture and blends it with the pigmentation and creamy finish of the Corrective Stick, concealing so well that skin looks airbrushed. A welcome addition to the formula is an infusion of light diffusing pearls, which prevent a mask-like finish. It also has a high SPF of 30 to shield against premature ageing, alongside the signature Dermablend waterproof finish.

The Corrective Compact Cream Foundation is available in 5 shades that range from fair Opal to deep Bronze, which match the shades available in the Fluid Corrective Foundation (see those shades in a previous review here) and the revamped Corrective Stick below. This means you can now create custom coverage in three different textures, mixing and matching to conceal different areas to suit your own preferences.

Corrective Cream Stick

Alongside the Corrective Compact Cream Foundation, Vichy are unveiling a brand new look for the Dermablend Corrective Stick, a concealer for sever imperfections. Though the intensely pigmented, 12 hour hold formula remains just the same, the beloved stick has undergone a major change to its look. This new version scales back the original stick to a more manageable and elegant 4.5g, akin to the size of a traditional concealer. The new design also has a tapered tip, making it easier than ever to build targeted coverage for localised imperfections.

And there’s some more welcome news for Dermablend fans: the shade range has been realigned so that it fits with those of the Dermablend Corrective Fluid Foundation and the Compact Cream Foundation, meaning you can build uniform, custom coverage across the range. The new shades are mostly similar to some of the old ones, but in some cases, Vichy have concentrated on matching them up to those of the wider Dermablend range.

Such is the case with 15 Opal, the lightest shade in the range. This new shade is richer than both of the palest shades in the old range, but it matches up perfectly with the Corrective Foundation in 15 Opal. It’s also actually a great match for 13 Light in the old shade range. It’s swatched heavily here to give an idea of the tone, but when blended it sheers out to a lovely neutral-pink shade that expertly disguises dark circles and other imperfections.

The next shade, 25 Nude, is a like-for-like match to the old shade 14 Nude. Yellow-toned and quite fair, if offers great coverage and brightens the skin.

35 Sand is a perfect match for the old 15 Sand, a warm neutral tone to suit medium skin.

And 45 Gold is a close match to 16 Bronze, albeit a little warmer and richer to more closely resemble 45 Gold in the Corrective Foundation.

The biggest difference is between the two darkest shades in the old range and the new range: 17 Coffee really can’t be compared to 55 Bronze! Again though, it’s a close match to 55 Bronze in the Corrective Foundation, a deep medium-to-dark shade. Unfortunately, there’re no matches for 17 Coffee users across any of the new range.

Total Body Corrective Foundation

And so we come to the most highly anticipated product of the range, and something that will make existing Dermablend users very happy indeed. The Dermablend Total Body Corrective Foundation is a whopping 100ml of high coverage, long wear camouflage foundation that you can use anywhere on the body, safe in the knowledge that it won’t transfer or run. It’s like Photoshop in a tube!

It’s high coverage finish conceals medium to severe imperfections including scars, thread veins, bruises and pigmentation. The foundation is dense enough for a single layer application, yet it has a lightweight bare-skin feel. If you’ve used the Dermablend Corrective Foundation, it’s the same sort of texture – albeit a little less ‘fluid’. The do-it-all body make-up has an SPF of 15, hypoallergenic ingredients for sensitive skins, and a non-clogging, non-comedogenic ingredients for those with oily skin.

The Dermablend Total Body Corrective Foundation is available in three shades, Light, Medium and Tan, though you can mix easily mix shades together to create your own custom colour. Each of the shades in the range have a neutral-yellow tone, which is good for counteracting the sallowness and pigmentation of scars and thread veins. Light is a neutral opal shade, ideal for paler skin (approx. 15 Opal and 25 Nude in the Fluid Foundation and the new Corrective Stick); Medium is quite golden, offering warmth for those with light to medium skin (approx. 35 Sand and 45 Gold); and Tan is warmer and darker, great for those with medium to dark skin (approx. 55 Bronze).

The coverage is impressive, and only the tiniest amount is needed to cover a big area. For very large areas such as the arms and the legs, I’d suggest that you mix 1 part foundation to 1 part moisturiser to give the entire area a natural-looking wash of coverage and colour. Then go back and add a concentrated dot of foundation for areas that need extra attention, blending in with a sponge or your fingers. The result looks fantastic: imperfections are blurred, the tone of your skin is unified and the fine texture of the foundation means that the finish doesn’t look artificial. Dust with a small amount of the Dermablend Setting Powder to prolong the 16 hour wear time and make the foundation completely waterproof.
