Sunset Eyes: The Trend You Need To Try

It’s not often that I see a makeup look and think ‘I need to try that’, but that’s exactly how I felt about sunset eyes! Sultry, sparkling and enchanting, a sunset eyeshadow look frames the eyes in warm, orangey red tones – a combination that is right up my street!

A subtle twist on a smoky eye, a sunset eye is perfect for someone looking to give their summer makeup look a shake-up. In 5 simple steps here’s how you can create this quick and easy look…

In 5 simple steps here’s how you can create this quick and easy look…

MAKE UP FOR EVER Color Paint in L-54 Lustrous Taupe

Step 1: Colour

Every eye look should start with a base, and the MAKE UP FOR EVER Color Paints are the perfect option. For this look I chose the shade L-54 Lustrous Taupe, a deep bronze hue that glides over the lid with ease. Apply the creamy formula all over the lid with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Concealer Brush – Small – 174.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow in I-722 Mandarin

Step 2: Structure

Even on my ‘natural’ makeup days, I like to run eyeshadow through my crease, it adds great depth to and makes eyes stand-out. As we’re creating a sunset look I have chosen the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow in I-722 Mandarin, a vibrant peach-orange that creates the perfect sunset tone.

I applied the eyeshadow through the crease and blended upwards with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Blender Brush – Large – 242 (this brush makes blending quick and easy thanks to its fluffy bristles).

MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in 4 Bronze

Step 3: Highlight

I couldn’t create a sunset look without a little sparkle, could I? To recreate the reflection of a sunset on the ocean I applied the beautiful MAKE UP FOR EVER Diamond Powder in 4 Bronze to my eyelids, a golden bronze that has a slight orange tone (this orange tone is greater when applied wet). The MAKE UP FOR EVER Concealer Brush – Small – 174 allowed me to pack on the pigment and take my look up a notch in an instant. For greater intensity apply the Diamond Powder with a wet brush.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow in ME-654 Cauldron Swatch

Step 4: Define

To complete the eyeshadow steps, apply a small amount of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadow in ME-654 Cauldron, a chocolate brown with a golden hue, to the lower lashline. Apply as close as possible to the lashes and then blend out for a smoky brown effect. The MAKE UP FOR EVER Precision Blender Brush – 216 will allow you to get up close and personal with the lower lashline, whereas the MAKE UP FOR EVER Round Shader Brush – Medium -240 will be the ideal tool for achieving a well-blended result.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant Mascara

Step 5: Intensify

Is any look complete without a few coating of mascara? For this look, I chose the MAKE UP FOR EVER Smoky Extravagant Mascara for its no-clump formula. Wiggle the pyramid shaped brush from the roots of your lashes upwards for longer, more defined lashes.
