The weather has been so cold recently that my hands are too numb to type this blog at speed… But nevertheless, the fashion industry has its beautifully-pedicured feet very firmly planted in Spring/Summer 2012 – and their makeup bags will be reflecting that with a brand new seasonal colour palette.
Want to keep up with the fashion pack? Here is my round up of the top catwalk colour trends for the season ahead.
METALLIC EYES – as seen at Fendi
Fendi’s gold leaf eye shadow certainly turned heads when it hit the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk – but there’s no need to spend hours applying semi-precious metal to your lids with tweezers and glue… Instead, take inspiration by treating yourself to a pot of sparkling eye shadow that will add some interest to your flutter during the day and sophisticated glamour at night.
Try: Clarins Single Eye Colour in Gold Leaf, £11.60, and Stila Glitter Eye Liner in Kitten, £10.
DEEP BERGUNDY LIPS – as seen at Donna Karen
Deep burgundy lipstick is a striking look – and the great news is that it suits every skin colour. We have Donna Karen to thank for inspiring the trend, who sent models down the runway pouting in various shades of wine, set against flawless skin and simply made-up eyes. This is an easy trend to follow, but it’s worth investing in a good quality lipstick that won’t bleed or fade too quickly.
Try: Guerlain KissKiss Strass Lipstick in Rouge Broderie, £21, or Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick in Cedar Red, £13.20.
CHERRY RED NAILS – as seen at Christian Dior
When the makeup team backstage at Christian Dior chose to paint models’ nails in bright, cherry red polish for their Spring/Summer show, they set a trend that is fun, uplifting and very wearable. It’s a great colour to try out while the weather is still miserable, as it’ll instantly perk up an otherwise dull outfit – and when the sun shines, you’ll be bang on trend for the new season!
Try: DIOR Vernis Long-Wearing Nail Lacquer in Massai Red, £16.50.
SMOKY EYES – as seen at Rodarte
Smoky eye makeup is a trend that never seems to go out of fashion – but for the coming season, the colour palette is moodier than ever. Think along the lines of deep grey, dark inky blue, and smudged black – and take the colour right up to the crease of your eyelid for a head-turning, but ultra-stylish look.
Try: DIOR 3 Couleurs Smoky in Smoky Black or Smoky Navy, £30.50 each.
NEON BRIGHT LIPS – as seen at Mary Katrantzou
How bright would you dare to go with your lips? On the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk for Mary Katrantzou, models sported pouts swathed in the brightest acid shades of blue, lime green, and fuchsia. Take my advice and keep the look wearable by opting for a pop of bright pink (suitable for every complexion) and adding a clear gloss to seal the colour and add enviable shine.
Try: Stila Long Wear Lip Colour in Intriguing, £13, and Clarins Gloss Appeal in Crystal, £12.
