Ok – I admit it, autumn really is here. It’s chilly outside, my breath is steaming up in the icy morning air and there’s no going out without a jacket at night.

Much as I adore my summer beauty staples, it’s time to put aside the hot sunshine shades and roll out a more autumn-appropriate look, so this week I’m trying out glittery autumn makeup.

This look was a big hit on the autumn/winter catwalks, with gorgeous glittery lips adding a sparkling touch to the Dior collection. Glistening molten make-up looks will be even stronger next season. The spring/summer runways featured everything from shimmering skin at Isabel Marant to gold-painted brows at Dior and golden lashes at Dries Van Noten. Which means this week’s look will keep you bang on trend right through into springtime.

Your Kit:

Daniel Sandler Mineral Shadow
Daniel Sandler Powder Bronzer in Spice Twice
Daniel Sandler Baby Jet Mascara
Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector
Guerlain Gloss d’Enfer Maxi Shine Lipgloss
Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment in Glampire
Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment in Pink Fire

Step 1

Once you’ve applied your foundation and concealer, creating an even complexion, start with the eyes. Because the main focus of this look is the gilt lip, the eyes are kept simple – which means they’re easy to do! Using a fluffy brush, blend Daniel Sandler Mineral Shadow over the entire lid. I’ve used Opal – a pale icy shade that forms a shimmery base colour.

Step 2

Next, using the matt shade from the Daniel Sander Powder Bronzer compact, blend it along the socket line of your eyelid with an eyeshadow brush, to add depth to the eye make-up look. Suck in your cheeks and brush the same shade of bronzer under your cheekbones with a soft blusher brush. I know this is an autumn look, but you didn’t seriously think I’d be giving up my bronzer, did you?! The difference here is that I’m using it to shape and contour my face rather than to add a tanned effect.

Step 3

Finish your eyes with a couple of coats of glossy black mascara – I’ve used Daniel Sandler Baby Jet Mascara which has a very slim wand that helps you reach every single lash, both top and bottom.

Step 4

Now, the lips! Start by blending Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector across your mouth. This tones down your natural lip shade and also creates a smooth, even base for the lip colour you’ll be applying. Now apply Guerlain Maxi Shine Lipgloss all over your lips. I’ve used a shimmery pink shade but you can use any gloss you like as it’s mainly there to form a sticky surface to fix the glitter you’re going to apply.

Step 5

Now – taking care not to spill glitter everywhere – dip your finger into your pot of glitter dust and dab onto your lips. I’ve used Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment in Glampire, which is a golden/coppery shade, but you can experiment with any coloured glitter you fancy.

Step 6

Finally, taking your second glittery shade – I’ve used Too Faced Glamour Dust Glitter Pigment in Pink Fire – dab it onto the centre of your top and bottom lips. Then, using a cotton bud, apply the same shade to the inner corner of your eyes, to pull the entire look together.

I think you’ll agree that this is a fabulous, fashion-forward look that’s more suited to the runway or red carpet than the office, but it’s all about experimenting and having fun with your make-up. Once you’ve got the hang of the glitter-lip technique, you could try a blood-red glittery finish for Halloween or a fiery orange effect for Bonfire Night. Whatever you do, always sparkle!

Stay gorgeous,
