I feel like I say this every year, but 2018 was a big year for perfume. Year-on-year, there are more fragrances launched, and right now we are looking at over 2,000 a year. 2,000! That’s a lot of perfume, and with so much noise it’s difficult for any scent to stand out, yet some still do.

Alien Man

A new MUGLER launch is always a big launch, but a new masculine from the brand is even bigger. Rarer than hen’s teeth, the new MUGLER masculine is something to behold and Alien Man, the counterpart to the iconic Alien, no less, certainly made waves. This dynamic and fresh take on leather is intriguing because it blends an unusual herb (dill) with a sleek black leather note, amplified by the fruity warmth of osmanthus. Alien Man is not the most unconventional of MUGLER offerings, but it does have a subtle handsomeness about it, almost as if it would be perfect for an introverted guy who wants to smell good, but not necessarily different.

Good Girl
Carolina Herrera Good Girl Eau de Parfum Spray
I know a good girl that lived in a shoe….. OK so, the first thing you’re going to notice about Good Girl is not the juice itself, it’s going to be the fact that it is housed within the most glamorous, the tallest, the most fabulous, the most Herrera of stilettos. But Good Girl was not all style and no substance, it is actually a rather delightful, and dare I say somewhat sexy, floral. This is a big, voluptuous tuberose and jasmine fragrance dusted with gourmand delights – the likes of cocoa, tonka bean and coffee. Good Girl is not just a big launch – it’s a perfume with a huge character, and it would be fair to say that it has a character that is difficult to dislike!

While we are on the subject of shoes, let’s talk Jimmy Choo! They make much-coveted footwear that come in all sorts of glamorous guises, and their perfumes have a fun-loving spirit that is easy and carefree. Fever very much fits this theme and I’d describe it as a floral gourmand fragrance with electric energy. Luminous, dewy notes of lychee, grapefruit and plum nectar bring sparkle to jasmine and vanilla orchid, while a dreamy base of tonka bean and sandalwood add richness. If you’re the fun-loving and fancy-free kind, then this may give you fever, in the good Peggy Leeway!
