Rene Furterer Volumea Shampoo and Conditioner Review

If there’s one beauty regime that I can never seem to stick to for too long, it’s my hair routine. I’m sure a lot of you have the same problem: after much trial and error, you finally find a formula that works pretty well, and then about a month down the line it appears to be less effective. For me, this is because I have too many hair concerns to be satisfied with any one range.
I have naturally dry and coarse hair that I’ve inherited from my dad’s side of the family. On the other hand it’s also prone to fineness and fragility from years of dying and styling, so I alternate nourishing formulas with ones that volumise so that my hair isn’t weighted down. I found my holy grail moisturising range a little while ago in the form of the Vichy Dercos Nourishing Reparative collection. And now, I’ve found the yin to that yang in the form of the Rene Furterer Volumea Volumising Shampoo and Conditioner.
This collection is just perfect for fine hair. It thickens, lifts and amplifies the look of your strands to create the illusion of more hair, yet the formula remains incredibly lightweight. If you’ve used volumising formulas before, you’ll know that a feeling of tackiness can sometimes be a problem.
I dispensed a small amount of the Volumea Volumising Shampoo into the palms of my hands and worked it into a bubbly lather in my hair with no trouble at all. The first thing that hit me was the smell – it’s incredible. The Volumea range has a refreshing tropical scent derived from natural carob, which is also the ingredient that provides lasting volume. This gorgeous smell lingers long after the shampoo has been washed out, yet it isn’t overpowering. It releases a subtle wave of natural fruitiness every time your hair moves.
I was very impressed with the effect of the shampoo on my hair after it was washed out. Some shampoos leave my hair feeling very dry – almost stiff – before I put conditioner on it to regain some balance. The Volumea shampoo left my hair feeling unexpectedly soft, so much so that I was able to run my fingers through my hair, which I’m rarely able to do between washing and conditioning.
Next up was the matching Volumea Volumising Conditioner, which was very milky indeed. I actually made the mistake of putting on more than I needed to because it was so lightweight. I’m used to a ‘film’ on my hair following conditioning, so I put on more and more until I achieved that effect. As you can imagine, I just wasted a lot of product! After that first use, I’ve taken to combing the conditioner through my hair from the mid-lengths to the ends.
I like this conditioner a lot, particularly in terms of its lightweight nourishment. It wasn’t quite enough to hydrate my extremely dry ends which are in desperate need of a cut, but then not many formulas are. The Volumea Conditioner is designed to complement the Volumea Shampoo by adding shine, hydration and smoothness without weighing the hair down, and in that respect it fitted the role perfectly.
Overall, the effect of both the shampoo and the conditioner when my hair was dried was truly lovely. My hair was bouncy and soft, and it did actually look thicker. Now, I just need them to bottle the scent so that I can wear it as a fragrance, and I’ll be set!
