3 Hassle-Free Ways To Apply Sunscreen To Children
Share
From wriggling, tantrums, and impatient children to sticky, heavy, and uncomfortable textures, there are so many reasons why you may be finding it hard to apply sunscreen correctly to your little ones. And, don’t worry if any of these scenarios sound like they apply to you; we’re here to help – not to point the finger!
We take sun safety very seriously here at Escentual; in fact, our #SunPoverty campaign aims to offer underprivileged children across the UK access to free sunscreen and educational advice. We had to take action when we discovered that 80% of sun damage happens before the age of 18, and 86% of melanoma cases are preventable. So, believe us when we say: we’re serious about children’s sun safety and you can trust that we are recommending comprehensive sunscreen application tips and sun habits…
Try these three easy steps and you’ll never apply sunscreen incorrectly again…
1. Use the Escentual Application Method
If you’ve kept up with our latest #SunPoverty campaign, you may be familiar with the E-S-C-E-N-T-U-A-L Application Method, which is printed on the back of our #SunPoverty educational children’s comics and recognised by our famous ambassadors.
We’ve created an easy anagram for applying your sunscreen correctly using our brand name, Escentual because we know how hard it is to remember every area of the body when you’re applying your SPF all over. Try it and see how easy it is to use…

S – Sides of the face

2. Apply SPF 30 Mins Before Going Outside
You may not know that most sunscreens (if they are chemical) need to be applied 20-30 minutes before going into the sun to make them effective. You need to apply your sunscreen evenly all over (using the E-S-C-E-N-T-U-A-L application method, of course!) and wait the recommended amount of time to let your sunscreen absorb into the skin.
Tip: best time/ application to apply your sunscreen is usually on the bottle.
3. Reapply Every Two Hours
Sweat, swimming, towel drying, or clothes rubbing are just a few of the usual culprits that remove your sunscreen throughout the day. It’s vital to remember to top up your little ones’ suncream to avoid burning, an easy way to do this is to take your sunscreen with you on the move – as a gentle reminder throughout the day.
