Where are you jetting away to this summer? I’m personally counting down the days until I hit the coast of Tuscany, Italy with my whole family – and I have been carefully planning my holiday wardrobe and beauty buys for weeks.
Once you’ve shopped for the essentials (and by that, I mean SPF for body and face, sun protection shampoos, and after sun moisturisers), the finer details really depend on where you are heading. So this week, I have picked out my favourite beauty buys for a selection of different holiday destinations…
SOUTH OF FRANCE
If you are heading to the glamorous shores of St Tropez or Nice, you will want to show off a deep tan in the evenings. Personally, I’d recommend resorting to the bottle, which is much safer and quicker – but either way, you will need a great highlighting product to show off your sun-kissed skin. I love nothing better than Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or Golden Dry Oil Splash, from £22.08, which is infused with tiny gold fragments of mother-of-pearl to hydrate and highlight holiday skin.
UK BEACH RESORTS
Whether it’s England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales, you can rely on the UK for having some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. What you can’t rely on, however, is the weather – so I would recommend packing a frizz control product and stashing it in your handbag for those unpredictable ‘bad hair’ moments. I really like Philip Kingsley PM36/Preen Cream 100ml, £18.15 – small enough to fit in a handbag, with an instantly calming and smoothing formula.
CARIBBEAN
How could you resist hitting the calm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean? Your makeup, therefore needs to be waterproof. I wouldn’t recommend a full face of slap, as these islands are as laid-back at they get – but a good no-budge pencil eyeliner will give your eyes definition whilst lounging on the golden sand, cooling down in the sea, or dining al fresco. Daniel Sandler Long Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner, £9.25 is ideal.
IBIZA
Heading to the party isle? One of the biggest hair trends for Summer 2011 is beach waves – and it works equally well for days around the pool and nights dancing the night away in Pacha, Space, or Amnesia. The easiest way to add natural waves to your hair is a quick dip in the sea, as the salt water will do the hard work for you – but if you prefer dry land, Tigi’s Catwalk Curlesque Curls Rock Amplifier, £8.06 will define curls and add shine.
TUSCANY
So why do I head to the Tuscan coast of Italy time and time again? It’s a combination of the beautiful scenery, delicious food and wine, and amazing weather. We stay in a beach resort in villas hidden amongst pine trees and eat plentiful fresh fruits and vegetables, so it feels like we’re getting back to nature. For that reason, I like my holiday shower gels to be fruity and evocative of my surroundings. This year, I’m packing Roger & Gallet Bois d’Orange Refreshing Shower Gel, £11.50 – an irresistible blend of Mandarin, Basil and Verbena. What are you waiting for? It’s time to book your next holiday…
