Glam Gothic Halloween Makeup

Halloween Gothic Glam Look Makeup Tutorial

Let’s be honest, at some point we all need Halloween makeup ideas that are less gore and more glamour. Perhaps it’s because you’d rather not scare yourself with crazed clown fancy dress, or maybe you just want to look ‘good’ and there’s no shame in that! Whatever your reason, we have your back this All Hallows’ Eve.

For times like this, our gothic glam look couldn’t be a better fit – it has a seductive edge, autumnal hues and can be worn with everything from a vampire cape devil horns.

So, without further ado, we challenge you to follow the below steps and channel your inner spooky siren this October 31st…

The Prep

Before starting this look you’ll need to create an even canvas. We used the MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Smoothing Primer because its lightweight formula helps to blur imperfections and improve the longevity of makeup. Next, we chose the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. This medium coverage liquid base has a light-diffusing finish that makes it a great choice if you know you’re getting photographed. To cover imperfections and add brightness to the under-eye area we called upon the much-loved Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer, before dusting the skin with DHC Coenzyme Q10 Face Powder.

Step 1

The star of this look is the new Urban Decay Naked Cherry Eyeshadow Palette. This 12-piece eyeshadow collection will help you to create a sultry, enchanted eye look.

First, apply ‘Feelz’ a dusty rose matte shade into the eye socket with the fluffy MAKE UP FOR EVER Highlighter Brush Small 140. This colour will act as your transition shade, creating a great base for the eyeshadows that follow. Make sure you extend ‘Feelz’ to the outer corner and blend outwards, to create a winged effect.

Next up from the Cherry Palette is ‘Devilish’, a matte reddish plum shade. Apply this colour through the crease to add depth using the Highlighter Brush Small 140 in light buffing motions.

Step 3

Now, reach for a kohl liner like the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet to take things to the dark side. This eyeliner is extremely creamy in texture, so it’s perfect for smudging close to the lash line and on the eyelid to create a smoky effect. Once applied, blend out with the The Blender Brush.

Step 4

To ensure a seamless blend into the contour colour go back in with your fluffy The Blending Brush and the shade ‘Devilish’. Apply through the crease and all over the lid. This step will make sure your eyeshadow is blended to perfection!

Step 5

Pull your eyeshadow look together by applying the shade ‘Devilish’ to the lower lash line. The MAKE UP FOR EVER Round Shader Brush Medium 240 is a great tool for this step as it has short, extra-dense bristles that allow precise application and blending.

Step 6

Achieve extra intensity by taking the applying the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet into the lower and upper waterline. The eyeliner’s smooth formula glides on with ease and stands the test of time. This step will add even more drama to the eyes.

Step 7

No glamorous eye is complete without lashes. First, apply a few coats of the Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara to prep then go in with the Benefit Real False Lashes Girly Up Lash. Dramatic and full yet comfortable and lightweight, these lashes will perfectly complement the look. Finish off your eyes by applying a few coats of the DHC Mascara Perfect Pro – Double Protection to your lower lashes; its compact wand has great lengthening power and killer definition.

Application tip: Before glueing your lashes, roll the band to improve the flexibility, then trim to fit the shape of your lashes. Wait 30 seconds before applying them to your lash line.

Step 8

To give your look more of a Halloween edge opt for a plum-hued contour! We created the above result with the bareMinerals Gen Nude Powder Blush in You Had Me At Merlot with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Double-Ended Sculpting Brush 159. Apply to the cheekbones and into the temples using light sweeping motions. Blend the blush into the eyeshadow to round-off the look and tie everything together.

Step 9

For a killer contour etch out your cheekbones that little bit extra with the shade ‘Devilish’ from the Cherry Palette. Focus under the cheekbones, blending into the hairline as you would your bronzer. If you notice any harsh lines grab the shade ‘Feelz’ and a fluffy brush to soften the edges.

Step 10

To get the most of your lip look, apply concealer all over the lips to maximise colour. Then, outline with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Colour Pencil in 718 Free Burgundy to create sharp, structured lines. For colour, the GUERLAIN Intense Liquid Matte Creamy Velvet Lip Colour in M69 Attractive Plum couldn’t be more perfect. This rich, berry hue beautifully complements the tone of the contour and gives great definition to the lips.

Step 11

To give the look an almost superhuman edge, take the GIVENCHY Magic Kohl Eye Liner Pencil in 02 White and apply lightly over the brows, then take a spoolie and comb the shade ‘Devilish’ from the Cherry Palette throughout the brows.

Take it to the next level…

If you want your look to have an element of horror then blood is a quick and easy go-to! It’ll transform your makeup in an instant. Take the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artificial Thick Blood (it’s so realistic it’ll fool everyone) and apply under the eyes using a cotton bud. The liquid texture will run down the face, mimicking the effect of bleeding eyes.

The Finished Look

As this look is quite intense, we definitely recommend that you double cleanse to remove all traces of makeup. To start, use the La Roche-Posay Respectissime Waterproof Eye Make-Up Remover around your eye area. Its bi-phase formula dissolves even the most waterproof of makeup without tugging or pulling. Next, go in with our favourite Bioderma Sensibio H2O, a sensitive-skin friendly micellar water that will remove your foundation and blush to make your skin feel fresh again!

So, there we have it, a powerful makeup look that we think might even look amazing when pared back for day-to-day.
