There has been so many strong beauty lookbooks this season: from gothic glam to peacock eyes, we’ve definitely not been short of inspiration for our party looks. However, While they might look great on camera and on the red carpet, we wanted to see if we could translate a few of these bold themes for everyday girls. The result is our series of Get The Looks, and first up we’re tackling 1920s beauty.
This year’s 1920s beauty update has had more of a glamorous, gothic twist, with dark eyes and even darker lips, and it’s a look that has been recreated on everyone from Kate Moss to Drew Barrymore. Under the watchful eye of the very beautiful and funny Carrie, one of Dior’s regional make-up artists, our customer services and copy assistant Lauren was transformed into a 1920s vamp…
Step 1: Create a flawless base.
Lauren’s skin is already clear, but Carrie wanted to create a bit of luminosity, and so used the Dior Skinflash Primer before buffing on some Dior Forever Foundation in 010 Ivory with the Dior Backstage Fluid Foundation Brush.
Step 2: Build up your brows.
The 1920s look is all about stark features, and an easy way make your eyes instantly stand out is to fill in your brows. Carrie applied the creamy brown shade from the Dior 5 Couleurs Designer Palette in 708 Amber Design.
Step 3: Buff a dark shadow onto the lid.
Taking that same palette, Carrie buffed the dark cocoa shadow onto the lid, and then blended with the Dior Backstage Medium Eyeshadow Brush for a sultry, smoky effect.
Step 4: Define the lash line.
When you’re happy with the amount of smokiness, line the upper lashline with a darker shadow for extra definition. Create even more depth with a black pencil eyeliner – Carrie used one from the Dior Grand Bal Palette.
Step 5: Apply a touch of gold.
If you don’t want the effect to be too dark, or you want to draw more focus to the lips, brighten your smoky eyes with a touch of metallic shimmer, like the beautiful amber colour in the 5 Couleurs Palette Amber Design.
Step 6: Apply a vampy lipstick.
This look is pulled together with a dark lip, so we chose Dior Addict Extreme in 987 Black Tie, a ‘scary-in-the-tube-but-not-on-the-lips’ blackened raspberry hue. Push the colour onto the lips with the Dior Backstage Lip Brush for better lasting power.
Step 7: Finish with lashings of mascara.
Finally, create an old school femme fatale gaze with lashings of mascara. Carrie applied the thickening Dior Diorshow Blackout Mascara, which is enriched with deeply saturated pigments for sooty, blacker-than-black lashes.
