French Pharmacy: Icons Vs New

French Pharmacy Skincare Icons Versus New

When it comes to the world of French Pharmacy, there are so many icons that it’s easy to find your favourites and stick to them for life. But that being said, there are also so many exciting new releases within the French Pharmacy category that it’s difficult not to have your head turned (guilty as charged!)

In this edit, I’ll be comparing three icons from Klorane, Eucerin and Avene to the rising stars in their range, while offering my opinion on whether you should stick to the classics or push the boat out and try something new…

1. The Cult Dry Shampoo Vs The Volume-Booster

French Pharmacy Icons Versus New: Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Spray Versus Klorane Flax Volume Dry Shampoo For Fine, Limp Hair

The Icon: Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Spray
The Newcomer: Klorane Flax Volume Dry Shampoo For Fine, Limp Hair

Why Is The Original Such An Icon? A 2021 Get The Gloss Beauty & Wellness award winner, Klorane’s fan-favourite oat milk dry shampoo is loved by celebs, influencers and practically every other French Pharmacy fan in the know. It’s powered by softening, protective oat milk extract and a blend of powders to soak up excess oils for hair that’s clean, fresh and voluminous in no time at all.

What Makes The Newcomer Different? Klorane developed the first-ever dry shampoo on the market all the way back in 1971. But 40 years later, their Flax Volume Dry Shampoo burst onto the scene, much to the relief of those with flat, lifeless locks. Powered by organic flax fibres and ultra-absorbent powders, it works similarly to the Oat Milk shampoo but it takes your hair to impressive new heights by effortlessly boosting volume and texture; in fact, it offers up to eight hours’ volume.

Which One Is Best For You? If your primary concern is keeping your hair fresh, airy and grease-free, then the Klorane dry shampoo with oat milk will be your go-to. However, if you’re also looking to benefit from the hidden use of dry shampoo (A.K.A. volume), then the newcomer is the one for you.

2. The Skin-Saving Balm Vs The Spray

French Pharmacy Icons Versus New: Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm versus Eucerin Aquaphor Body Ointment Spray

The Icon: Eucerin Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm
The Newcomer: Eucerin Aquaphor Body Ointment Spray

Why Is The Original Such An Icon? Not only is the Eucerin Aquaphor Balm a firm-favourite of Team Escentual (myself included), but it also has a loyal celeb fanbase; in fact, it was even a part of Meghan Markle’s wedding makeup routine. Although it’s designed to soothe, protect and heal ultra-dry, cracked and irritated skin, it’s loved just as much by influencers for its hidden benefits: it doubles up as a glowy, natural-look highlighter, a lip balm and more…

What Makes The Newcomer Different? To start off with, it’s completely revolutionary. Deemed the world’s first-ever ointment spray, the Eucerin Aquaphor Body Ointment takes the original balm and transforms it into a unique mist with 360-degree reach. Perfect for large patches of dry, irritated skin, it creates a breathable protective barrier over the body to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier function for a healthier, happier you.

Which One Is Best For You? Both skincare formulations within the Eucerin Aquaphor range have unique benefits that make them more suitable for slightly different concerns. The balm has a very thick texture that takes a little more effort to work in, so I’d recommend the balm to anyone who wants targeted care and the Aquaphor mist to those who wish to cover wider areas, like the legs, back or torso. Plus, the spray is more well-suited to anyone with limited mobility, thanks to its emollient spray format. And of course, if you love the multipurpose beauty benefits of the original, it’s best to stick to that one; its rich, balmy texture is better for adding a glowy touch to cheekbones.

3. The Moisturiser Vs The Spot Treatment

French Pharmacy Icons Vs New: Avene Cleanance Comedomed Anti-Blemishes Concentrate Versus Avene Cleanance Comedomed Localised Drying Emulsion

The Icon: Avene Cleanance Comedomed Anti-Blemishes Concentrate
The Newcomer: Avene Cleanance Comedomed Localised Drying Emulsion

Why Is The Original Such An Icon? Although it was only launched in 2020, the award-winning Avene Comedomed Concentrate has already secured its place as an icon within the Avene Cleanance range. Offering clinically-proven effectiveness from seven days, it targets both invisible and visible blemishes while limiting their reappearance. But what’s the most exciting thing about this high-tolerance face cream? The fact that it’s formulated with Comedoclastin, a patented plant extract that targets blackheads and existing blemishes directly.

What Makes The Newcomer Different? A new launch for 2021, the Avene Cleanance Drying Emulsion takes all the best bits from the original moisturiser and offers a concentrated SOS spot treatment. Also powered by Comedoclastin, the targeted spot treatment reduces the appearance of localised blemishes from day one. Oh, and it’ll help to prevent residual marks and guard against future breakouts, while its thin nozzle top allows for very exact application.

Which One Is Best For You? If your complexion falls into the oily/blemish-prone category, then Avene’s Cleanance Comedomed Anti-Blemishes Concentrate will work better as an everyday moisturiser – and then you can use the Localised Emulsion on top if you want an extra helping hand fighting smaller breakout-prone areas. If, however, you struggle more with random breakouts from time to time (I mean, don’t we all?) then the Localised Drying Emulsion will work better for you; simply introduce it into your skincare routine as and when needed.
