Extend Your Tan!

I always feel on a holiday high when I jet home from my summer break. With sun-kissed skin and a relaxed mind, I feel ready to take on the world – until I reach my computer on Monday morning and am faced with the harsh reality of a thousand emails to plough through and deadlines looming.
So what’s the key to extending that amazing holiday feeling? In my opinion, it’s extending your holiday tan. Catching sight of that beach glow in a mirror every now and again will take you straight back to the sunshine, whilst prompting comments from friends that will give you the chance to reminisce. But how do you do it? Here are my top Tan Extending tips…
Step 1 – BEFORE HOLIDAY
To keep your tan for longer, you need to start prepping skin before you’ve even jetted away. Start exfoliating your body at least twice a week prior to take off, which will help to slough away those top layers of dead skin. If you fail to do this, your skin will start to shed as soon as you’ve hit the sun, so it’s well worth the effort. Get in the holiday spirit with the cheerful summer fragrance and gentle formula of Crabtree & Evelyn Citron, Honey, & Coriander Skin Smoothing Body Scrub, £14.40.
Step 2 – ON HOLIDAY
Start moisturising your skin from the moment you step off the sand. Pick a richly hydrating shower gel to prevent the tightness that can occur after a day in the sun. For a hit of intensive moisture, you can’t beat L’Occitane Shea Butter Milk Shower Cream, £12.21.
After your shower, generously apply a soothing After Sun to lock moisture into skin. I love the rich, silky texture of Lancaster Monaco After Sun Intense Moisturiser for the Body, £15.33. It leaves skin feeling soft, hydrated, and supple, whilst lending your skin a subtle tan-enhancing sheen.
Don’t forget your face! Body After-Suns will be too rich for a lot of complexions, so it’s worth investing in a facial moisturiser that will hydrate and revive skin after a day in the sunshine. Clarins HydraQuench Cream SPF15 Normal to Dry Skin, £26.40, is part of my must-have holiday skincare regime. It feels light and refreshing, yet absorbs quickly and leaves skin feeling soft and supple.
Step 3 – AT HOME
When you reach home shores, I would really recommend switching to a Tan Extending Moisturiser, which contain small levels of fake tan to keep that holiday glow looking its best. Remember that it’s a fake tan, so it’s crucial that you wash your hands after each application to prevent giveaway orange palms! One of my favourites is He-Shi Day to Day Gradual Tan, £14.50 – it feels super moisturising and gives tanned skin a really natural boost.
