#EscentualMe: Scenting a 27 Year Old Social Media Consultant from Bristol
Share
#EscentualMe is where we profile one of our loyal readers to find out everything about them so we can find the perfect fragrances for them. This week’s submission is a 27-year-old Social Media Consultant from Bristol. As complex as they are motivated, this week’s candidate has a thirst for knowledge as well as a welcoming nature that is focused on friends and the beautiful things in the world. Let’s take a look at their profile below and see which fragrances would be the perfect fit, which would match their personality, and which would perhaps move them out of their comfort zone…
Personal Profile
Job Title: Social Media Consultant
Age: 27
Location: Bristol
Sex: Female
Hobbies: Photographing timeless moments, travelling alone, learning new things, wearing black, self-help books, peroxide.
Dislikes: The colour pink, arrogance, running, my commute, my indecisiveness, dairy.
Tell Us About Your Weekly Routine: A working week for me starts every morning at 6am, scrolling my Instagram feed and sleepwalking to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee, then, next minute it’s 7am and I only have 30 minutes to turn from Charlize Theron in Monster, to Charlize Theron from DIOR. My commute is an hour long, I travel by bus, using this time to read (trying my best to learn new ways of thinking) and then my walk is where I try and get my steps in for the day, before I sit at my desk discovering the beauty news on social.
My day finishes around 6pm and it’s back on the commute I go; scrolling my social feeds whilst flicking the pages of my book. As soon as I walk through the door, the clothes come off and so do my layers of makeup. My evening ends all before 9pm with a 7-step skincare routine taking place, just before I use Pinterest’s abundance of motivational quotes to set me up for the next day ahead. Weekends for me are pretty spontaneous. I’m partial to after work drinks, catching up with old friends and of course, the lie-ins that go with.
Current Favourite Fragrance: Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire Moonlight Patchouli Eau De Parfum, or Acqua di Parma Colonia Ambra Eau de Cologne Concentree Spray, Guerlain Santal Royal Eau de Parfum, Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Havane Eau de Toilette (I told you I’m indecisive)!
Favourite Food: A traditional Sunday roast with all of the trimmings or salmon sashimi – I eat anything and everything!
Best-Loved Drink: Very mood dependent. If it’s been a hard day, pass me a merlot. If I’m feeling fancy, i’ll have a pornstar martini.
Favourite Colour: Black satin
Your Perfect Perfume Fit…
Ambre Imperial by Van Cleef & Arpels
What struck me most about the profile of this clearly lovely individual is just how consistent their olfactory tastes are. There’s a theme of richness, density and darkness, with sweet ambers reigning supreme, so the perfect fit for this #EscentualMe contestant has to be something that brings together their love for the colour black and their penchant for the sweet warmth of amber.
The perfect fit for this week’s mystery #EscentualMe entry is Ambre Imperial by Van Cleef & Arpels. This was an easy choice – it’s an amber (check), it’s by a brand that makes one of their favourite fragrances (check) and it comes in a bottle coated in the deepest shade of black (check). So we’re three for three with this one, but the smell is really what sells it – this is a rich, velvety amber with a gourmand flair. It smells like caramel, with creamy vanilla, lush tonka bean and an amber accord that is gauzy and warm. But the black of the bottle comes in the form of a dark contrast of cedarwood that gives a solid juxtaposition to all of the sweetness.
Ambre Imperial is the perfect fit for an amber lover who adores the colour black.
Your Fragrant Alter Ego: The Empath
Idylle by Guerlain
If I were to categorise this person into a personality type, I would say that they are an empath. What’s clear is that they take interest in the world around them, checking regularly into the world of social media to check out what others are up to, but also spending time learning new things and bettering themselves through self-help books. To me, this paints the picture of a person who cares about others.
But how does this translate into a fragrance? Quite easily, actually! An empathetic fragrance is one that has an inviting and friendly persona – one that is likely to. Taking that into account, and the fact that our #EscentualMe candidate loves the rose and patchouli-based Moonlight Patchouli, leads me to the remarkably kind Guerlain Idylle Eau de Parfum. Idylle is a fresh and dewy garden filled with blush pink roses. It paints the picture of a welcome space and of a person who wants to know all about you.
Your Wildcard Scent…
Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez
My wildcard choice really goes against everything I know about this #EscentualMe entry. First off, it comes in a bottle that is pure white – the very opposite of satin black. Furthermore, it’s an abstract white floral, which is perhaps the very antithesis of ambers, patchouli-soaked roses, and gourmands. It’s not a glass of merlot or a porn star martini, it’s something quite different indeed. So why have I chosen it?
Narciso Rodriguez NARCISO Eau de Parfum works as a wildcard here because it is completely different to everything this person would usually be comfortable with. But it’s not completely out of the comfort zone – this person spends time on their beauty routine (7 steps in that skincare routine!!) and NARCISO definitely has a clean, cosmetic vibe to it. NARCISO is an expansive fragrance built on gardenia and musk – a blinding white light that may just work for this week’s #EscentualMe candidate, especially on those days when they feel more ‘peroxide’ than ‘black satin’.
