Escentual Loves: Support For Ukraine, Trends and Women’s Day
Share
Our Escentual Loves Series is back for March; we’ve been keeping our ear to the ground, listening out for the latest news from brands, social media trends and exciting campaigns and cherry-picked our favourites for this special edit of Escentual Loves. From admirable shows of support for Ukraine, fashion shows, hot pink, using lube to style your hair to celebrate Women’s Day, there are so many stories we’ve loved this month…
Support For Ukraine
Escentual
We are proud to say we support Ukraine. This month, our team member, Maja Abramek, arranged an internal collection of necessities to help with Ukrainian refugee aid, she decided to help with the effort to take care of refugees – women, children and the elderly. A cause close to all of our hearts as Maja is from Poland and her home town is 50 miles from Ukraine.
“At the moment ‘Polonia dla Ukrainy’ – which translates to “Polish community for Ukraine” – is organising a collection of necessary items for Ukrainians in Cardiff. I decided to help my hometown and make a collection at Escentual.” – Maja Abramek.
Balenciaga
The world watches in horror at the devastation caused in Ukraine. Balenciaga shows their support in the only way they know how; with a fashion show inspired by resistance against adversity with models walking in a cold blizzard, holding black bags and wearing thin clothing, while Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna read out a poem in Ukrainian; Demna, shone a light on Ukraine saying that it feels personal as it reminds him of his trauma when he was a refugee from Georgia who took refuge in Ukraine.
Cardiff Street Artist: MyDogSighs
Street artist MyDogSighs took to Cardiff’s Northcote Lane to pay tribute to the people of Ukraine with a graffiti mural of a weeping eye with a backdrop of the Ukrainian flag; he uses his art to show his horror at the events unfolding in Ukraine. As a Welsh business based in Cardiff, we love seeing shows of support for Ukraine in the local area to help raise awareness in a time when most of us feel helpless as we watch.
Trends
Valentino: Hot Pink
Last month we talked about Very Peri being Pantone’s colour of the year, but now it has a little competition thanks to Valentino’s display of all hot pink in their Autumn 2022 collection for Paris Fashion Week. Creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli chooses this bold fuchsia to move away from pink’s stereotypically being seen as a girlish colour that can’t be worn by men. Valentino went for a monotone colour scheme where every piece of clothing is either bright pink or black so that we could appreciate the clothing with no distractions.
Perfect Lip Shade Match Hack
Every month Beauty Team Member, Hannah searches out the newest and most exciting trends in her Trend and Tested series. This month Hannah and the Escentual team explored a trend that’s gone viral on Tik Tok which is meant to make finding your perfect lip shade easy. To try the trend you need three things, and you probably own them all already: a brow pencil, blusher and lip gloss. All these products are used together to create your ideal lip match.
Tempted to try it? See what the Escentual team thought of this trend when they tested it out…
Lube To Style Hair
It isn’t the first time Lube has been used as a beauty product with Tik Tokers using it as a primer for their makeup; this time Lube is being used as a styling product for your hair. With the wet hair look being the trend Kim Kardashian’s Mugler dripping wet look and more recently Meghan Fox at the Music Video Awards. Meghan Fox’s stylist reveals the trick to this sexy slick hair is lube, which means you can try it too…

Euphoria Makeup
It seems like whoever you speak to at the moment is talking about the Netflix series Euphoria. Aside from the controversial storyline and character arcs, there’s one thing in particular that fans can’t stop talking about and that’s the glittery makeup; gems, colour and all things sparkle, Euphoria has left my days of Maybelline dream matte mousse and Barry M nail varnish in the dust. With 495,267 Instagram posts using #euphoriamakeup there’s no sign of this trend slowing down any time soon…
Donni Davy (Euhporia lead makeup artist) has inspired thousands across the global to get creative with their makeup looks and we’re here for it. If glitter isn’t for you, our luxe partner, Cardiff based makeup artist, Charlotte has used graphic liner to re-create the main character, Maddie’s signature style.
International Women’s Day
Escentual
We loved celebrating International Women’s Day on the 8th of March. It gave the team a chance to reflect internally on the achievements and our appreciation of women, especially from inside our own business. As part of an all-female communications team, we saw the opportunity to share the behind the scenes of the real people behind the screens with you; that you speak to on our social channels, lives or just read their words on-site or via email so you can get to know us a little better.
These are a few women that inspire us to be better…
L’Occitane
As well as shouting about our own women within Escentual it was great to see our fellow brand partner, L’Occitane doing the same. In an inspiring campaign for Women’s Day, L’Occitane selected 6 women from their boutiques, head office and warehouse to shine a light on the special women they have working their business. The chosen women spoke about how they’ll be celebrating Women’s day and giving us more insight into themselves as people…
