Discovering Dior Sauvage
Share
For the first time in 10 years Dior has released a new men’s Eau de Toilette: the widely anticipated Sauvage fragrance. An olfactory shock with the appeal of a classic, Dior Sauvage is anything but ordinary.
Dior is well known for creating fragrances that demand your attention. They forge new trends and create aromas that stand out and astonish. Created by Dior’s Perfume-Creator, François Demachy, Sauvage is a powerfully fresh composition with unique depth.
This long awaited release brings forth a new fragrance territory for men, an aroma that blends raw and noble all at once. Fronted by Johnny Depp, an actor that exudes mystery and intrigue, he is the ideal face for this virile and confident aroma. But the Sauvage story doesn’t stop there…
The Inspiration
Sauvage is the next generation of Sauvage, borrowing nothing but the name and the impertinent flair of the elder Eau Sauvage (Dior’s first men’s fragrance). François Demachy, Dior’s Perfume-Creator since 2006, used man as his starting point when creating the Sauvage fragrance, focusing on strong, unmistakable masculinity. The Perfumer wanted to create an outstanding composition, one that fused harsh pleasure with extreme quality.
François wanted to create a forthright fragrance using a blend of ingredients of natural origin, and this link between man and nature became the starting point of the Sauvage story. The Sauvage name was chosen for its snappy Dior-esque quality, but also for what it signified. The fragrance is ‘sauvage’ with a Dior touch, tightly balanced between a man’s inborn animal instinct and a natural sophistication.
When learning the story of Sauvage it’s clear to see why they chose Johnny Depp as the fragrance’s face. Never before has he represented a fragrance, and never before has he portrayed anyone other than the characters that made him one of Hollywood’s living legends. But now he is the Dior Sauvage man – actor and man merged into one.
The Film
Directed by Jean Baptiste Mondino, the Dior Sauvage film sees Johnny Depp as a drifter, leaving behind the city in search of his inner animal. Unsure of where he is heading, he drives toward the desert, a sign of his new departure. The film represents a journey of self-discovery: the flat, wide open landscape of the desert his opportunity to be at one with nature.
The film perfectly reflects the mysticism around Dior Sauvage and captures the inborn animal and natural sophistication of the Sauvage man through Johnny Depp.
