Dior Trianon Spring Look - Eyes & Complexion

Following on from my post about the beautiful offerings of the Dior Trianon Spring Look for nails and lips, it’s time to take a look at Dior’s extensive offering for dreamy eyes and a fresh springtime complexion.
Upon first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking that Trianon is a range all about pastels. While delicate shades do feature predominantly, they’re mixed up with unexpected pops of bold colour and an eclectic mix of both shimmering and matte textures. It’s a contemporary ode to the youthful elegance of a marquise, and there’s a lot to get excited about!
This season’s limited edition Dior Trianon 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette recalls the refined yet youthful pastel shades found in the salons of the Petit Trianon. In further homage to Marie-Antoinette, each segment is embossed with a delicate pattern of pearls and a timelessly feminine Fontanges bow. There are two colourways available in very different harmonies and finishes: above is 954 Pink Pompadour, a rich mix of roses and purples, while 234 Pastel Fontanges presents a sweet mix of lighter shades.
From left, Pink Pompadour is made up of a pink pearl, a metallic silver, an iridescent lilac, a rich metallic grape, and a metallic mid pink. If you’ve a penchant for the rosier side of the colour spectrum, this palette will tick lots of boxes. As with all Dior palettes there’s a creativity-satisfying medley of finishes, underlined by the boldness of that statement grape shade, and sprinkled with the fairy lightness of iridescent lilac.
The second colourway, 234 Pastel Fontanges, is rather different. The sweet harmony of pearlescent, sugared pastelsis described as a ‘halo of light’ by Dior, and I’d be inclined to agree. The shades aren’t as pigmented as Pink Pompadour, but are rather more frosted and shiny, offering a hint of youthful colour.
From left we have silver pearl, icy silver-blue pearl, golden pearl, deep bronze with a golden shift, and pink pearl. The colours are quite asimilar tonally, so creating a complete look with all of the shades may not be for everyone. Saying that, I really do think it is a very versatile palette: wear the shades alone for a delicate glow for daytime, or pat the frosty shades on top of other colours to amp up their faceted colour and shine.
The new Diorshow Fusion Mono Matte is a bit of a delight. If, like me, you prefer your eyecolours to be creamy, then you’ll love this powder-cream hybrid with a unique ‘bouncy’ feel. This new collection features new shades of the bestselling Dior Fusion Mono eye colour (read all about it here), only this time the shade selection is presented with a rich matte finish.
091 Nocturne is the anomaly in the midst of mattes, and what an anomaly it is. The rich, deep grey-black is shot through with glimmer reminiscent of the night sky: silver, purple and green flecks that shimmer and shift with every movement.
121 Celeste is a cool lilac that is quite delicate when applied using fingers. Use the included applicator for a bolder matte finish.
641 Fantaisie is a muted rose pink. It’s a flattering, warm shade that looks very romantic when blended onto the lid with a finger. Apply with the included applicator for denser opacity.
721 Songe is an ideal base shade. The matte beige smooths over the skin like satin, providing a wash of seamless, sophisticated nude that is great for pairing with other colours.
Ideal for contouring the eye, 761 Mirage is a deep chocolate brown with a lovely soft finish. Richly pigmented, it’s perfect for creating low maintenance, high impact depth with the sweep of your finger.
The texture of the Diorshow Fusion Mono Matte is lightweight, fine and comfortable; you can see just how closely it hugs to the skin here, with a velvety finish that is very easily blended. Each swatch was created with three swipes using my finger, and it’s just as easily blended. Lovely stuff.
Heading up the complexion perfecting focus of the Trianon collection are two brand new primers: Pore Minimizer for refining and mattifying, and Glow Maximizer for boosting radiance. Each one is packaged in a slimline tube with a pump applicator, and provide a smoothed and sculpted base for make-up application – but that’s where their similarities of these two super formulas end.
Diorskin Pore Minimizer has a sheer, velvety texture that temporarily fills in fine lines and glides over pores, leaving you with a smooth, soft focus look. The matte finish does a great job of keeping oiliness at bay for longer – I have actually found find myself patting a tiny bit of primer onto my midday oiliness rather blotting powder, and it does the job very nicely indeed.
On the flip side, the Diorskin Glow Maximizer is a semi-sheer golden pearl fluid with a dewy finish. I’ve used this as an all-over base, as a highlighter, and mixed with my foundation, and it performs all of those duties impeccably. Used alone, they’re fantastic; but when they’re used together, the primers are make-up dream team. Apply Pore Minimizer to your t-zone to keep your make-up looking fresh, and finish with a touch of Glow Maximizer on your cheekbones, forehead and chin.
