DIOR Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick: The Review & Swatches
Share
I’d put money on the fact that you’ve never tried a liquid lipstick like Ultra Care Liquid before. I’m so sure of it because I hadn’t, and I’ve tried a lot them! As an Editor, a lot of good formulas pass by my desk, and only the great ones make it into my makeup bag. As of right now Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid in 707 – Bliss is the only lip colour in there.
I can’t say that I’m that surprised, DIOR are lipstick legends. Rouge Dior, their first-ever lip release back in 1953 is still a best-seller, and it’s grown from being a single lipstick to an entire range, made up of lip stains, liners, pencils and now, liquid lipsticks. Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid Lipstick is the latest release, and it’s one of my favourites yet; here’s everything you need to know…
The Formula
Ultra Care Liquid is ‘powered by flowers’. What this means is that it has a flower oil formula, which combines natural-origin camelina, sweet almond oil and shea butter. When combined, this hydrating trio gives the liquid lipstick its whipped creamy texture, which feels like nothing on the lips. The formula has two different finishes. DIOR identify them as ‘petal matte’ and ‘demi satin’ but after trying them, petal matte is a velvet-like matte and a dewy satin appears matte but has a very subtle shimmer running throughout. Unlike many liquid lipsticks, this one doesn’t dry completely flat or zap your lips of moisture. You’ll still feel the creaminess hours after applying it, which is a huge plus if you’re prone to dry lips like me.
The Packaging
It wouldn’t be a Dior lipstick without jaw-dropping packaging. Every detail has been considered; from the signature Dior-red lid and luxurious frosted glass effect to the silver detailing that’s instantly recognisable from other Rouge Dior lipsticks – it’s the type of lipstick you’ll want to re-apply. And on the subject of application, the applicator deserves mention too – not only is it petal-shaped to quickly and precisely outline the lips, but it has a tiny reservoir that takes up and deposits just the right amount of product every time – it’s genius!
The Shades
You won’t find a neon pink in this like up; Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup took inspiration from the colours of flowers to create a collection that’s bold yet wearable. Despite offering intense pigment that stays put, every shade has a softness that means they enhance your makeup look, rather than steal all the attention. See all the shades, modelled by yours truly below…
446 Whisper is a light pinky-nude with a coral tone and matte finish.
459 Flower is a peachy-pink with a cool undertone matte finish.
635 Ecstase is a brick red with a cool undertone. It has a slight pink tint in some lighting.
639 Wonder is a very cool nude-pink with a matte finish.
707 Bliss is a muted orangey-brick with a warm undertone and matte finish.
736 Nude is a light mocha brown with a cool undertone and a matte finish.

966 Desire is a deep raspberry red-pink with a matte finish.
975 Paradise is a cool-toned deep cherry purple-red with a matte finish.

Your Questions Answered
How should I apply Ultra Care Liquid?
Straight to the lips! The petal-shaped applicator makes applying the Ultra Care Liquid quick and easy. For extra definition, pair with one of the Rouge Dior Ink Lip Liners.
What’s the difference between Ultra Care Liquid and Rouge Dior Liquid Lip Stain?
Both offer 12-hour ultra-pigmented, comfortable matte colour but that’s where their similarities stop. Ultra Care Liquid is wax-free and has a thicker cream texture, whereas the Lip Stain has a more liquid texture that applies wet. Another big difference is the shade selection, the lip stain is available in more shades, and many of them are vibrant, whereas Ultra Rouge Care has a more neutral selection designed for every day.
