DIOR Ultra Care Lipstick: The Swatches & Review
Share
Last month I reviewed the DIOR Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks. And, spoiler alert: I loved them. So much in fact that I couldn’t leave the rest of the range unexplored – the promise of more high-end lip colours (that last) was too good to resist! So here we are, DIOR Ultra Care part two: the lipsticks!
Ultra Care Lipsticks follow the same inspiration as the rest of the Ultra Care range: comfortable colour, with shades inspired by flowers. The differences between both are the texture, finish, and of course the packaging, which is as chic as ever, of course. Want to know more? Keep reading…
The Formula
Camellia and neroli oil are the stars of this formula. They’re the ingredients (along with 2x natural-origin jojoba) that are to thank for its moisturising texture, and they’re responsible for the luxe white CD core. Ultra Care is, without a shadow of a doubt one of the most comfortable lip colours I’ve worn to date. Despite its pigment intensity, these lipsticks don’t settle into fine lines or leave lips feeling tight or dry. The finish is a satin-matte. They’re not shiny, but they have a luminosity, which is down to the white micro-pearls that live in the CD heart, which acts like a highlighter on the lips.
The Packaging
Eagle-eyed DIOR fans will have already noticed that this lipstick’s packaging is the same as Ultra Rouge (find the difference between both below). Dressed in red and silver, it’s the jaw-dropping bullet we’ve come to expect from the House of Dior – weighty, luxurious-looking and it’s as much of an accessory as it is a makeup item.
The Shades
Similar to the Ultra Care Liquid Lipsticks, all of the shades in this line-up are inspired by the colours of flowers. Created by Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, all the hues are designed with wear-ability in mind, and compliment natural beauty.
168 Petal is a nude-coral with a warm undertone.
455 Flower is a nude peachy-pink with a neutral undertone.
635 Ecstase is a deep berry-pink with a cool undertone.
707 Bliss is a red-orange brick red with a neutral undertone.
736 Nude is a light mocha with a neutral undertone. It’ll make the perfect nude lip colour for dark skin tones!
750 Blossom is a light berry-pink with a cool undertone.
808 Caress is a muted red-pink with a cool undertone.
848 Whisper is a brown-pink with a cool undertone.
989 Violet is a rich plum with a cool undertone.
999 Bloom is the iconic Dior shade transformed; this time it’s a neutral Hollywood red.
Your Questions Answered
How should I apply Ultra Care Lipsticks?
Start with a lip liner (Dior Contour is a great go-to) to define the lip line, then apply Ultra Care Lipstick straight to the lips.
What’s the difference between Ultra Care and Ultra Rouge Lipsticks?
The obvious difference to the eye is the white CD that’s at the heart of the Ultra Care Lipstick bullet. It’s the nourishing ingredients that lie within this CD core that make the difference. The flower oils give Ultra Care its dewy lip finish, whereas Ultra Rouge leaves lips semi-matte. It’s also worth noting that Ultra Rouge is available in a more vibrant shade selection.
