Share
Another week, another gorgeous autumn make-up look to swoon over! This time it’s the turn of the Dior Mystic Metallics collection, a radiant blend of metallic textures and mysterious shades that reflect the colours of the galaxy.
Tapping into the high shine hues seen on the Dior A/W13 runway in a variety of colourways and tones, there’s something here for everyone. If you’re into bright colours and unusual textures, then check out the new DiorShow Fusion Mono, an intensely shimmering pot of long-lasting eye colour. If sophisicated neutrals are more your thing, then the brand new shades of Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick will have your heart beating just that little bit faster.
Take a look at what’s just launched on site, and let me know which products have made your lust list in the comments below…
Dior Mystic Metallics 5 Couleurs
The centrepiece of the collection is a new, collectable edition of the iconic 5 Couleurs Eye Palette which comes in two colourways: 864 Constellation, a delectable combination of pinks and purples and 384 Bonne Etoile, an earthier, metallic mix.
Open up the signature navy blue packaging to reveal this beautifully embossed design inspired by Christian Dior’s love of stars. There are also two double-tipped applicators and a large mirror in the lid.
You can see here just how deeply embossed the pressed powder is – there’s no chance of ruining the pattern after a single use! The colours are incredibly rich and vivid, particularly the two metallic shades.
The shades complement each other beautifully, ranging from deepest plum to a sheer, fanciful pink. From left, there is lilac grey satin, metallic gold, ballerina pink satin, metallic grape purple and plum satin. The mix of textures and shades makes for a wonderfully striking look.
The second colourway, 384 Bonne Etoile, is a little more universal. It features five high shine, very pigmented colours which will suit a variety of eye colours – think your usual ‘everyday eye’, but with a fashion-forward metallic kick.
These colours can be used together for a modern smoky eye, and are equally as striking when used as a single pop of jewel-toned colour. From left, the colours include deep burnished gold with shimmer, metallic pewter, metallic bronze, metallic teal and seafoam satin. Shop the Diorshow Mystic Metallics 5 Couleurs Eye Palette here.
Dior Mystic Magnetics Nail Lacquer & Magnet
The second star product (and one that I’m sure lots of you will have heard about already!) is the Dior Vernis in 802 Mystic Magnetics, a beautiful blue-toned pewter infused with metallic particles. I love this colour, even without the brilliant magnetic effect – it’s smooth, multi-reflective and has that brilliant self-levelling effect that is part and parcel of all Dior nail lacquers.
And here’s how to do it! First paint the nail and wait for it to dry, and then apply a second coat for full, perfect coverage. While this coat is still wet, hold the magnet very close to the nail for about 10 seconds – you’ll feel a tiny ‘pull’ as the magnet attracts the small metallic particles in the nail varnish – and then lift away to reveal a very cool wave pattern. The longer the nail, the better it looks! Shop the Dior Vernis in 802 Mystic Magnetics here.
Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer
If you’re not into the magnetic effect, then the two limited edition offerings in the core nail collection are slightly more sedate. The first, 382 Destin, channels the metallic trend in such a sophisticated way.
It’s quite a hard colour to describe, isn’t it? Like a combination of beige, pearl and grey all tied together with a beautiful silver shift. It’s an ideal day-to-night transition colour that I think will be pretty popular.
992 Galaxie is a perfectly sumptuous autumnal colour, tapping into the popular berry hue of AW13 very nicely indeed, plus it has a gorgeous metallic finish – two trends with one stone!
The overall effect is quite gothic in feel (another trend box ticked), and if you look closely, you can detect the micro-fine shimmer. It’s a truly beautiful blackened berry shade. Shop the Dior Mystic Metallics Dior Vernis here.
Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick
Compared with the lips and nails, this autumn’s limited edition Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick shades are going back to basics. The semi-opaque finish of Addict Extreme perfectly suits the polished feel of the Mystic Metallics collection, and the formula is targeted to provide perfect hold, comfort, and shine with an almost imperceptible feel on the lips.
From left is 369 Mystic, a peach-toned nude; 546 Gri-Gri, a pink-toned nude; 619 Fortune, a muted terracotta red; and 986 Bonne Adventure, a port wine hue. Shop the Dior Mystic Metallics Addict Extreme Lipstick here.
Dior Addict Gloss
There are also four new shades of the relaunched Dior Addict Gloss in the Mystic Metallics collection, with shades ranging from celestial and light to dark and vampy. My favourite thing about this new formula is that they aren’t sticky in the slightest; they have a hybrid gel/gloss formula that is so comfortable to wear, and is still very pigmented indeed.
From left is 311 Magic a golden peach shimmer; 364 Charm, a milky peach-rose; 684 Merveille, a rosy pink shimmer; and 981 Ensourcelante, a port wine hue. Shop the Dior Mystic Metallics Addict Gloss here.
Dior Fusion Mono Long-Wear Eyeshadow
The product that I’m perhaps most excited about in the Mystic Metallics collection is the Diorshow Fusion Mono Eye Colour, an ultra pigmented pot of metallic colour which is reminiscent of the unique ‘bouncy’ texture of the DiorBlush Cheek Creme. That texture – it’s really hard to describe! It’s so soft that it’s almost loose (the glide is incredible), yet the colour pigments are very firmly packed together, allowing for really impressive colour pay-off. In the pot, it has the feel of a gel-cream, and on the eye it has the intensity of loose colour pigment.
001 Lune is a pure, pearly white with a highly reflective finish. Perfect for highlighting the brow bone and the tear duct, it can also be used to lighten other shades.
081 Aventure is a steely grey shade packed full of green, silver, purple and blue micro shimmer. It’s great for an easy smoky eye, as the texture lends itself very well to easy blending.
281 Cosmos is a fantastical peacock blue made up of silver, green and blue shimmer that sparkles like the sea. It’s absolutely stunning when used as a liner, or as a wash of luminous colour across the lid.
381 Millenium is a brilliantly complex burnished khaki gold with multicoloured shimmer, mainly green and gold.
661 Meteor is a glistening copper with golden shimmer which looks especially wonderful on darker skin tones. Pack the colour on for a molten metal effect.
881 Hypnotique is an aptly-named shade of wonderfully rich, blackened plum with blue, purple and silver shimmer.
The metallic effect of the DiorShow Fusion Mono is just incredible. I swatched the above with my finger, although there is a very useful retractable applicator that comes with each pot of colour which ‘packs’ the colour onto the skin for a bolder effect. If you’re feeling even more daring, you can dampen the brush to create a foiled look. Shop the Dior Fushion Mono Eye Colour here.
