Caudalie Suncare Review

UVA/UVB protection level and texture; these are the two factors most people consider when choosing the right sunscreen for them. They’re a great place to start, I can’t argue with that, but in 2019, there’s one more thing we can’t ignore: the impact the SPF we choose has on our environment. If this shocks you, you’re not alone; so many people are unaware of the impact hydrosoluble filters, found in some sun protection have on the ocean, damaging both marine life and our coral reefs. Luckily, people are taking action, including many of the brands on Escentual.

The brand in the spotlight for this edit is, Caudalie; their new 5-piece Sun Care collection is backed by years of research and is free from these harmful ingredients, plus there’s a protection level and texture for everyone. Does it sound too good to be true? Spoiler: it isn’t! Here’s what you need to know…

Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare SPF30

Caudalie Anti-Wrinkle Face Suncare SPF30

What is it: A broad spectrum SPF30 for the face with mineral/chemical filters and creamy texture.

I’ll go ahead and say it: SPF for the face doesn’t get much better than this. It’s non-sticky, doesn’t leave a white cast, feels comfortable (it even hydrates skin thanks to added grapeseed oil and organic grape water), and it’s safe for skin and nature thanks to its non-toxic, non-nano formula. All big claims, I know, but after testing this entire range over a 2-week holiday, I can confirm it hits the mark and then some. Once blended into the skin the cream becomes invisible; all it leaves behind is a subtle frangipani scent (it’s strongest when first applied, then diffuses), a dewy bounce to the complexion, which works/looks great under makeup, and water-resistant sun protection with antioxidant grape polyphenols that defend against premature ageing: what more could you want?

What is it: A broad-spectrum SPF50 for the face with mineral/chemical filters and creamy texture.

The thought of an SPF50 brings to mind white cast and thick textures for many, but you won’t get any of that with this. Tried and tested by my bearded boyfriend on holiday, it does need a little extra working in but once blended it’s undetectable and lightweight. It has the same ingredients as the SPF30, the only difference, of course, is the higher UV protection. That means you’ll get the hydration from the grapeseed oil and organic grape water, very high protection from UVA/UVB rays, and of course, the non-toxic ingredient line-up that’s safe for your skin and our marine ecosystems. If you’re on the lookout for a non-comedogenic daily SPF with very high protection, this ticks all the boxes!

Caudalie Milky Sun Spray SPF30

Caudalie Milky Sun Spray SPF30

What is it: A broad-spectrum SPF30 spray for the face and body with a milk-like liquid texture.

If an easy application and a moisturising texture are at the top of your list when shopping for SPF, you’ll love this milky sun spray just as much as I did. Quick and foolproof, and designed for the face and body, its spray SPF isn’t too runny, which makes it a breeze to apply; so many milk sprays are messy and get everywhere, but not this one! I look forward to putting this SPF on; it feels as if you’re putting on a moisturising lotion rather than a sun protection spray, and it isn’t sticky in the slightest. When you’re finished applying, the formula leaves behind a beautiful sheen on the skin, a lingering frangipani fragrance and water-resistant SPF30 that’ll protect your skin from UVA/UVB rays and blue light.

If the only thing holding you back from purchasing the Milky Sun Spray SPF30 is the protection level, then I recommend that you add the SPF50 to your basket stat. Made with the same research-driven formula, there’s barely any difference in the textures; both feel refreshing, comfortable and blend in really easily. On holiday, I found myself reaching for this a lot (with temperatures of 35 degrees I was taking no chances). My skin stayed protected from top to toe throughout my trip (it was so handy being able to use this on the face too), the only trouble I had was stopping my boyfriend from using it all!

Caudalie Beautifying Suncare Oil SPF30

What is it: A broad-spectrum SPF30 oil for the body.

I’ve tried my fair share of SPF oils, and this is a cut above the rest. The texture is luxurious but not at all greasy; it works into the skin leaving behind a satin-like sheen that does a great job at elongating the legs and enhancing the decolletage. But that, of course, isn’t it; the suncare oil is powered by the same kind-to-marine-life UVA/UVB filters. Also, the same uplifting aroma is present and the hydrating grapeseed oil and organic grape water, making for a sun protectant that’s as much about pleasure as it is protection. On holiday, I was applying this to my legs long after the sun went down!
