Binky's Guide For Metallic Smoky Eyes
Share
When it comes to getting dressed up, Chelsea girls just love a bit of bling. Twenty-four carat gold, pure platinum… It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s glossy and glamorous! Luckily, fashion has come round to our way of thinking this season; lustrous metallic pieces sparkled throughout the spring/summer catwalk collections, from glimmering silver shoes to shiny evening wear. King of bling this summer is Burberry, where literally everything – bags, shirts, jackets, skirts, hats, macs, suits – comes coated in a reflective metallic sheen. The colours in this collection look incredible – there are glossy greens and pinks, glinting purples and gleaming scarlets, all enriched with a fabulous metallic sheen. Everything looks rich and sumptuous. I love! And how cute does Romeo Beckham look in those Burberry ads.
Now, I’m all for wearing some metallic pieces in my outfit, but for those of you who aren’t quite ready to do the full Burberry, why not take the beauty route instead? On the Versace spring/summer catwalks in Milan, the models wore full-face smoky-golden make-up, while over in Paris at Chanel, it was all about brilliantly space-age silver eye make-up. Clearly this is great for the catwalk but might be a bit much for us real women – but I still wanted to take on board the new metallic trend and so I’ve decided to mix up the two make-up looks and create a silver smoky eye – it is absolutely gorgeous for evening. You guys know how much I love doing smoky eyes for a night out, and adding a touch of glistening silver into the mix simply raises the glamour factor even higher.
How To Get Binky’s Silver Glitter Eye Makeup
Products Used
- Vichy Aera Teint Pure Fluid Foundation
- Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette In Gris Gris
- Bare Minerals High Shine In Frost
- Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
- Dior Backstage Diorshow Mascara
Step 1: Create a smooth base
Begin by smoothing foundation under your eyes and onto your eyelids. I’ve used Vichy Aera Teint Pure Fluid Foundation. This will act as a primer for your eyeshadow, fixing it in place all night, and preventing smudging and creases. It will also conceal any dark shadows, helping your eyes look bright and wide awake.
Step 2: Begin with a light silver base
Brush a light shimmery silver shade across the entire eyelid, working the colour from the lash line right up into the socket line. The Dior 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette In Gris Gris is perfect for this make-up look as it has three different silvery shades, as well as a bluey silver and a glistening metallic black eyeshadow. I used the middle silvery shadow from this palette as my base colour, which looked fabulous.
Step 3: Apply black eyeshadow to lash line
Using the metallic black shadow from the Dior palette (or something similar), brush it along the lash line to will add definition to your eyes and create to that classic smoky eye effect.
Step 4: Shine bright
Next up, I used the Bare Minerals High Shine In Frost which is an incredibly luxurious looking super-shiny silver eyeshadow. I applied a touch of this shimmering eye colour to the center of the eyelid, smoothing it on my fingertip. This is a great way to apply eyeshadow exactly where you want it; you can really blend it in well which will help fix the colour in place and prevent creases forming in the eyeshadow.
Step 5: Create a cat’s-eye flick
Liquid eyeliner in glossy black is an essential when creating a smoky eye. You can either use black liquid eyeliner, like the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in carbon black that I’ve used, or you may prefer to use an angled make-up brush dipped in wet black eyeshadow. I find liquid eyeliner far easier to use. To get a perfect line, pull your eyelid taught and make small brush strokes along the lash line. Don’t forget to add a cat’s-eye eyeliner flick at the far end to elongate your eyes.
Step 6: A brightening touch of white
This is a great make-up artist’s trick: dot on a touch of white eyeshadow by your tear-ducts and smudge slightly with your fingertip. This miraculously makes the eyes look bigger and brighter.
Step 7: Finish with lashings of mascara
Evening eyes look spectacular with lashings of mascara. I’ve used Dior Backstage Diorshow Mascara. Brush on two or three times, sweeping the lashes outwards to create a fan effect. The look you’re aiming for is almost a false-lash effect, so layer up!
