Binky Felstead's Guest Beauty Blog: In The Pink

Make-up is so sneaky, isn’t it?! It’s so wonderfully clever the way it can give you a glowing tan when you haven’t seen the sun in months. It can create the perfect complexion when you’re looking less than perfect underneath, or it can turn you into a red-hot just-out-of-bed sex-kitten when you (and by you, I mean me) haven’t had a date in months.

Believe it or not, I’ve discovered the secret to bottled sexiness – it my latest make-up obsession and it’s a blusher. Confused? Let me explain…

As I said in last week’s blog, I’ve been running around like a mad woman recently, what with my Made in Chelsea filming commitments and the whirlwind of working life in general, and I was beginning to feel pretty washed out and exhausted. (Okay, I admit it wasn’t all down to working – I’ve done my fair share of playing recently, too!)

In need of a beauty pick-me-up, I went make-up shopping. Now, I’ve always used powder blusher in the past (I’m a huge fan of Dior Glowing Colour Powder Blush in the shade Pink In Love, and always keep one in my make-up bag). However, I recently discovered the delights of fluid blushers and now I’m totally obsessed. My first find was Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blusher – an incredible silicone-based fluid blush that is super-easy to blend in and lasts all day. Newly converted to the fluid-blusher cause, I thought I’d try another.

This week’s discovery is the amazing Guerlain Terracotta Blush. This fluid blusher is like a healthy zing in a bottle. It gives my cheeks a lovely warm, rosy flush and makes me look glowing, healthy and totally refreshed – as if I’ve just come in from a sunny stroll in the countryside.

Super-easy to smooth on and blend into your skin, Terracotta Blush is packed with pigment, so you only need a tiny dab to brighten your complexion with a rosy glow. Plus it includes mother of pearl concentrate that illuminates the cheekbones to give your skin a dewy freshness. That’s what I mean by “sneaky make-up” – a quick dab of this miracle-worker and the after-effects of last night’s partying will disappear. Instead of looking like you just crawled out of bed you’ll look like you just bounced out of the gym. Brilliant, eh?

Make-up trends come and go, and products fall in and out of fashion but right now, blusher is having a bit of a moment. At the autumn/winter fashion shows, “wind-flushed” rosy cheeks were a big beauty story, in particular at Michael Kors, where the models all sported gorgeously glowing pink cheeks.

According to the makeup artists at Shiseido, working backstage at the Michael Kors show, the rosy cheeks were meant to look like a sexy flush: “like after a morning of skiing, an hour in a hot tub or some good sex”. How brilliant is that – even if you haven’t had a date in weeks, you can look like you’ve been romping in the hot tub. Talk about sex appeal in a bottle… Sneaky make-up – don’t you just love it!
