That’s where we come in. As part of our role on the beauty team at Escentual we get to try lots of different products and because we all have different skin types and needs, a lot of the time we have our own favourites!

We know the importance of wearing SPF every day on our faces and these are the ones we turn to.

About Elisabeth

Age: 40
Skin Type: dry with a tendency to break out
Skin Concerns: ageing – fine lines and wrinkles, sensitivity
Favourite SPF: Avene Anti-ageing Suncare Very High Protection Tinted SPF50+

Benefits of Avene Anti-Ageing SPF:

• Anti-ageing formulation
• Broadspectrum protection
• Tinted – with reflective pigments for a subtle glow and uniformed skin tone
• Weightless feel on the skin
• Enriched with vitamin C for additional antioxidant protection as well as brightening properties

I’ll admit, I used to be a huge Avene B-Protect (link) but since Avene launched this tinted anti-ageing SPF it’s become my new daily go-to. I love the fact that it not only tints my skin for days when I don’t want to wear foundation, but it also sits well under makeup, too. The creamy texture blends in easily (I use my fingers) and it doesn’t make my skin look greasy at all. The real game-changer for me is that it also contains anti-ageing ingredients so not only is it protecting my skin from future damage, but it’s also helping to reverse the damage that’s already been done. I can’t see me ever switching to any other sun protection, and that’s a bold statement to make!

Skin Concerns: pores and blemishes
Favourite SPF: Clarins Mineral Sun Care Compact for Face SPF30

Benefits of Clarins Mineral Compact SPF30:

• Mineral formulation – great for acne-prone skin
• Tinted – offers subtle coverage to the skin
• Compact design – perfect for application on-the-go
• Broadspectrum protection
• A cocktail of natural extracts to hydrate, protect and nourish your skin

There are so many reasons to love this compact. My deal-breakers? It’s broad-spectrum (protects against 97% UVB rays and UVA rays), the coverage is just enough to blur imperfections and it’s a mineral formulation (won’t clog pores). But there’s much more to discover; it’s kind-to-skin ingredients keep my dry skin looking fresh, and for those who tend to get oily areas like me, this one is water and sweat-resistant. Not to mention the compact is handy for top-ups and travelling!

Favourite SPF: Shiseido WetForce Clear Stick UV Protector SPF50+

Benefits of Shiseido Clear Stick UV Protector SPF50+:

• Stick format for easy application
• UVA Protection
• Invisible when applied
• WetForce Technology means this sunscreen works harder when skin gets wet or perspires
• Fragrance neutralises the smell of perspiration
• Non-comedogenic

Sun protection is important to me, but so is a comfortable base and a speedy makeup routine. That’s why the Shiseido Clear SPF50 Stick is my go-to. It’s not your average SPF; it’s a transparent solid gel broad-spectrum sunscreen in a wind-up stick. It’s zero fuss, zero white cast; all you need to do is swipe and go (under or over makeup may I add). High protection and nifty packaging aren’t all it has to offer though. Inside the formula, there’s WetForce technology, which strengthens your sun protection when it comes into contact with water, soy lecithin known for its anti-wrinkle powers, and oil-soluble liquorice extra, which helps prevent dark circles. There’s a lot packed into this pocket-sized stick!

Favourite SPF: Eucerin Photoageing Control Sun Fluid SPF50

Benefits of Eucerin Sun Fluid SPF50

• Broadspectrum protection
• Matte finish
• Fast-absorbing
• Enriched with antioxidant – licorice extract to protect cells in the deeper epidermal layers
• Contains hyaluronic acid to assist with hydration and reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles

I’m coming up to 25, so that means my collagen is breaking down and signs of ageing (fine lines and wrinkles) will start to show if I don’t protect my face from the sun. Forget fancy anti-ageing creams and serums, my go-to skincare for making my skin stay younger is an SPF. But, not just any sunscreen, it has to be non-greasy, comfortable and most importantly contains a high-level SPF50 broad-spectrum UVA – the ray responsible for collagen breakdown, a.k.a skin ageing! One that has all the above and more is the Eucerin Photoaging Control Sun Fluid, and for this reason, it’s a staple in my collection.

Favourite SPF: Avene Sun Care Very High Protection B-Protect SPF50

Benefits of Avene bProtect+

• Broadspectrum protection
• Suitable for sensitive skin
• Tinted Formula
• Contains pre-tocopheryl – a powerful antioxidant, so skin stays protected from the damaging effects of free radicals.
• Hydrating formula

Whether I’m out enjoying the sun or sitting at my desk, I always start the day with Avene B-Protect. It’s the perfect daily facial sunscreen because it has SPF 50 protection which ensures my skin stays shielded against the damaging rays of the sun, but it’s so lightweight you forget you’re even wearing it. It’s also bursting with a powerful antioxidant, keeping my skin safe from free radicals that can cause ageing.

I very rarely wear foundation anymore as the B Protect provides a subtle, radiant coverage that covers any imperfections while giving a fresh-faced appearance. It’s enriched with Avene’s iconic Thermal Spring Water, too, which provides long-lasting hydration and comfort, making it a great choice for those with sensitive skin.

Favourite SPF: Eucerin AQUAporin Active for All Skin Types SPF25

Benefits of Eucerin Aquaporin SPF Day Cream:

• Broadspectrum protection
• Non-comedogenic
• Fragrance-free
• Contains Gluco-Glycerol that ensures moisture is evenly distributed, even in the deeper epidermal layers

Eucerin’s AQUAporin Active SPF25 is my go-to moisturiser because it weaves UV protection into my everyday skincare routine – and we should all be wearing SPF every day.

I love how this cream leaves my complexion feeling soft, supple and intensely hydrated, while still offering SPF protection.

For me, the most important thing about this multitasking moisturiser is that it defends against both UVA and UVB rays, so my complexion is protected against skin damage and sunburn.

Plus, this non-comedogenic cream blends in really easily, and leaves my skin feeling hydrated all day long. The finishing touch? It also gives skin a radiant glow, while nourishing and protecting my complexion even on cloudy days.
