Share
One trend that shined on the SS22 Fashion Week Runways was shimmer and sparkle. From body shimmer to holographic eyes, glitter is the way to glow.
Vogue is calling sparkle one of the seven standout beauty trends for next year. But what better time to embrace your shine than New Year’s Eve? Here at Escentual, we’re getting ahead of the trend by starting our New Year’s countdown early, with a glittering beauty routine that will make you the star of any party – because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a little shimmer?
Whether you’re looking to go for a slight shimmer or full disco ball, find your match in this glittery line up…
1. The Hair & Body Glitter
Why It’s A Party Essential: Whether you’re staying in or planning to party all night, Nuxe’s Golden Dry Oil adds a natural shine that will help you achieve the flawless ‘no makeup’ glow.
It’s the perfect alternative to those glitter sprays that are impossible to wash out, and it’s blended with 100% natural botanical oils. It actually works to soften the skin and hair with a glittery veil of antioxidants and vitamin E. So, you can say goodbye to dry, sticky glitter sprays and hello to a nourishing shimmer.
How I Use It: I start my New Year’s makeup look by prepping my skin and hair; first I shake a few drops of the Nuxe Hair & Body Oil onto my skin and massage it in. Next, I run the golden glitter through my hair for an extra sparkle!
After using this for a week, I can vouch that this body oil will make you feel sexy for New Year’s Eve, leaving your skin silky, shiny and irresistibly soft to touch.
2. The Holographic Eyeshadow
Why It’s A Party Essential: Holographic eyeshadow is trending worldwide, so it’s a must-have for this time of year. Urban Decay’s Moondust Eyeshadow will keep you sparkling right into the night as it offers 16 hours of smudge-proof wear, thanks to micro-fine glitter which creates a holographic finish that’s out of this world.
Perfect for makeup novices and experts alike, the lightweight eyeshadow powder seamlessly builds shine and colour, so you can achieve a flash of glitter in a few easy sweeps. The mixture of supercharged colours add depth and dimension to the eyelids for a glistening, full-bodied colour like no other.
Want to hear the best bit? It’s infused with caffeine to brighten and depuff your eyes, making it the perfect addition to help make it to midnight.
How I Use: For the second step in my routine, I go for a simple glow by building the Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow across the whole eyelid. To achieve the trending holographic look, place a darker matte shade in the centre and outer of the eye, layering the Moondust onto the centre and diffusing out with a brush.
3. The Shimmery Eyeliner
Why It’s A Party Essential: The bareMinerals Mineralist Lasting Eyeliner is the perfect way to add a sparkly twist to the timeless cat-eye look. You can choose reds, blues, browns and more; they come in an array of pearlescent shades, so there’s something for any outfit, party theme or eye colour.
Call in the New Year with 12 hours of long-lasting, rich-pigment colour and shine with the Mineralist Eyeliner. Both dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, its complex of avocado oil and aloe vera is ideal for contact wearers who want to leave the glasses at home.
How I Use: For the third step in my routine, I chose my favourite shade, ‘Graphite’, which reminds me of the star-filled sky on New Year’s Eve. I went for a smokey, sultry eye-look by drawing a thick line across the upper lash line and diffusing with a brush, blending outward.
4. The Illuminating Gloss
Why It’s A Party Essential: Lip glosses have also seen a comeback this year, and Shiseido’s Shimmer GelGloss is the perfect combination of gloss and glitter for the party season. The extreme shine lip gloss is great for adding sheer colour and sparkle to your lips without going OTT.
Shiseido offers the comfortable gel in a vast array of glassy, reflective colours – including everything from luxurious gold to icy blue. But If you’re celebrating New Year’s outside, the dual-gel design has been infused with shea butter, offering up to 12 hours of hydration against the cold weather.
How I Use: As a hopeless romantic, I picked my favourite shade, ‘Sumie Magenta’, to create a charming pink glow that’s truly kissable at midnight. Perfect to add a glossy touch to a darker lip or on its own, squeeze the GelGloss tube gently and then glide across the lips.
Each shade has a soft pastel colouring, which makes it the ideal pairing for a bold shimmery lid or an intense smokey eye. Top tip: the shades listed on-site are extreme examples of the gloss colour, so try to envision a soft version of each shade.
5. The Sparkling Fragrance Sensation
Why It’s A Party Essential: An accessory in its own right, YSL Black Opium Extreme sports a chic glistening black design, which feels at home in any clutch bag.
Dressed from head to toe in black glitter, the intense version of Black Opium is a long-lasting gourmand scent that will linger deliciously on the skin as you dance through the night.
A mysterious and sensual spin on the classic pink centre of Black Opium, the contemporary fragrance was made for midnight. The Eau de Parfum starts the party with a fruity cocktail of crisp and honeyed notes before blossoming into an opulent white floral bouquet, finishing off with an energising and addictive coffee note that will warm your senses as you leave the party.
How I Use: For the finishing touch in my routine, I like to spray this perfume on the pulse points – such as the wrists, neck and behind the knees – to improve it’s longevity.
